Like the other celebrity couples that have split in the months before them (Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver; David Duchovny and Tea Leoni; Ashley Simpson and Pete Wentz), Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have called it quits after seven years of marriage. Though the divorce proceedings are said to be amicable, you have to wonder if J-Lo, at least, might have been better off with one of her former paramours.
Sean Combs (aka "P. Diddy")
Lopez and Combs were already experiencing problems in the middle of a two and a half year relationship when they found themselves in the middle of a gunfight at Club New York in Manhattan. The two fled the scene after the shooting but were chased down shortly after by the NYPD. A gun was found in the front seat of the car which resulted in the felony charges for the hip-hop magnate. The drama surrounding the trial was too much for either to handle and the two called it quits about a year later; the break was not pretty. The feisty Latina referred to the break-up as "ugly" and Diddy has insinuated that the love shared between them paled in comparison to that of him and on-again, off-again girlfriend Kim Porter. He seems unwilling to commit, unlike the engagement happy J-Lo.
Better off with the "Bad Boy"? No way.
They met on the set of her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" video. He was a backup dancer, she was the star. Their marriage came and went in under a year; the multi-talented Lopez was already dating Ben Affleck before the divorce papers were even finalized. Cold? Yes. Appropriate? No.
Better off with the Backup Dancer? No way! (He's a backup dancer. They don't last. Just ask Britney.)
Prior to marrying Anthony, Jenny from the Black was linked to Boston boy, Ben Affleck. The courtship of Ben and Jen was highly publicized in the media to the point where the pair were simply referred to as "Bennifer". Shortly after calling off their engagement, the "Good Will Hunting" hunk appeared on "Saturday Night Live" and joked about the split. He lampooned the media's obsession with the name and suggested future dating opportunities that would produce a catchy name a la Benyonce (should he manage to snare the stunning songstress). J-Lo's reaction was less spirited, saying the relationship "changed her" and not in a good way. Since moving on, the (arguably) better half of "Gigli" has been married to Jennifer Garner for six years. The couple have two children together, and this Hollywood brood seems incredibly happy.
Better off with Ben? Possibly -- .
Sadly, we'll never really know what could have been -- well, maybe we won't say never...
