Jennifer Lawrence Called Too Fat for 'The Hunger Games' - Other Celebs Criticized for Their Weight

Jennifer Lawrence can't catch a break -- the lovely actress is now being criticized for her weight.

Apparently some critics don't think that Jennifer Lawrence looks hungry enough for "The Hunger Games," but just like her character Katniss, Jennifer is proving that she can bravely take whatever is thrown at her by not letting their criticism bring her down. So why are critics saying that she's too fat for the part?

Those bashing Jennifer's weight seem to believe that her character should look like she's starving since food is scarce in the nation of Panem, failing to note that Katniss provides more food for her family than most by illegally hunting game. Katniss is also very active, which would make her more muscular than other members of her District.

Food and physical activity aside, what critics have really missed is the fact that Jennifer is a very thin girl. Many of them probably think she's heavier than what she actually is because she has a baby face, but it's that baby face that makes it possible for the 21-year-old to play a teen. So apparently critics aren't capable of seeing how skinny she is because they now believe that being thin requires having high cheekbones, an angular jaw line, and bones jutting out like Angelina Jolie.

Luckily Jennifer is laughing off the criticism. According to the Chicago-Sun Times, a source close to the actress says that she had this to say about the people complaining that she's too fat for "The Hunger Games:" "This is hilarious. First, people say how so many actresses in Hollywood look anorexic, and now they are criticizing me for looking normal."

But unfortunately Jennifer is just one of many female celebs who have to try hard to not let such criticism get to them. Mandy Moore's baby face is probably also what prompted movie bosses to tell her to lose weight for her role in the Robin Williams' comedy "License to Wed." According to Cinema Blend, she was "mortified" by the request and said this about her body: "I know I'm different from the typical Hollywood ideal of what is beautiful. But quite frankly I don't think that's attainable and I'm happy to represent something different. This is just exactly who I am."

And even some of the best actresses in Hollywood have had to face criticism of their weight -- Kate Winslet has revealed that she had to fight hard to become an actress because she got rejected so much as a teen. The beautiful star was often told that she was "too fat" or that her feet "were the wrong size" for the stage roles that she was hoping to win, something that had to be devastating to a young girl. However, didn't listen to her critics, eventually scoring one of the biggest movie roles of all time in "Titanic." And now she gets the luxury of poking fun at costar Leonardo DiCaprio's weight, pointing out that since the film she's slimmed down while he's packed on the pounds.

Even celebs whose bodies don't really play a part in their career can get criticized for their weight. Adele's beautiful voice is what made her a star, but she's also a beautiful girl. However, fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld had to throw some criticism of her in with his praise by saying, "She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice." Unfortunately this is probably the way a lot of vain members of the fashion industry see the world - they simply judge a person on how good of a clothes hanger they would make.

Hopefully Jennifer's response to her critics will inspire young girls to quit playing real-life versions of "The Hunger Games" by refusing to eat because they think that worth is judged by a number on a scale. There are plenty of celebs today proving that beauty can come in all shapes and sizes, but obviously Hollywood still has some work to do.
