Surprise: Jennie Garth and Amanda Bynes are friends. Double surprise: The former "Beverly Hills 90210" star tried to reach out and help Bynes as she goes through personal problems.
"I tried reaching out to her and I haven't been able to reach her," Garth told US Weekly on Monday night. "My heart feels for whatever she is going through and I love her dearly."
Apparently Garth isn't the only person she's shutting out. Bynes won't even talk to her parents.
"Amanda shut them out and isn't speaking to them," a source told the magazine.
It does sound like Bynes needs a friend in her life right now, though she might not be ready to accept the help. Other troubled celebs did opt to take the advice of friends during their own personal crises.
Britney Spears was still in the midst of her late '00s meltdown when actor Mel Gibson whisked her away to his home in Costa Rica. "Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible," a source told People at the time.
The tables quickly turned in 2010 and it was Gibson who looked to the pop singer for help. The pair engaged in several late night phone calls after Gibson's controversial phone calls to his ex-girlfriend went public.
"Mel has been talking to her a lot," a source told InTouch in 2010. "They speak on the phone all the time, usually late at night."
Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson made a hasty exit from Los Angeles after news of his girlfriend Kristen Stewart's infidelity went public. The actor eventually made his way to Ojai, Calif. to the vacation home of his pal and "Water for Elephants" co-star Reese Witherspoon. The actor reportedly stayed there for several days while he mended his broken heart.
Why there? It's secluded, of course.
"The air is fresh, the phone isn't ringing, you can't access e-mail. Time slows down," Witherspoon has said of her former vacation pad, now for sale.
Kristen Stewart and Jodie Foster
On the other side, Kristen Stewart reportedly ran to friend Jodie Foster to help her deal with the fallout over the affair. A source told HollywoodLife.com that Foster was a shoulder for the young actress to cry on. The veteran actress eventually encouraged her to get back out there and deal with the problem head-on.
"She told Kristen that it was no good moping around the house and that the sooner she faced the world and was seen in public, the quicker she can move on with her life," the source said.
Demi Lovato, Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez
"The X Factor" star Demi Lovato felt like all of her friends abandoned her after she sought treatment for her eating disorder and personal issues in 2010. However, two friends stuck by her: Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian.
"The people that were calling me while I was in there were Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez. Those two girls, they meant the world to me. They still do," she told Billboard in 2011.
