Happy 43rd birthday Jay-Z! The rapper-turned-entrepreneur is blowing out his birthday candles today and will likely be accompanied by his gorgeous wife, Beyonce, and their daughter Blue-Ivy. Despite his climbing age, the "Watch the Throne" singer remains more relevant than ever. Check out what else he's been up to over the past few months.
He's been busy performing
After wrapping up his tour with Kanye West, Jay-Z opted for a couple concerts closer to home. The businessman opened up Brooklyn's luxurious Barclays Center in September with several nights of sold out concerts and will perform at the arena again on New Year's Eve. He also organized and performed at the outdoor "Made in America" festival in Philadelphia over Labor Day. In addition to his big concerts, Jay-Z is also planning to release a new solo album and collaborate with Kanye for a sequel to 2011's "Watch the Throne."
His Brooklyn Nets are winning
The birthday boy has spent plenty of time cheering on the Brooklyn Nets this year and with a roster full of talented players, the Nets reside near the top of the Atlantic Division standings. Fans in Brooklyn can thank the part owner for bringing the team to the city in the first place. Jay-Z was instrumental in moving the team from New Jersey, and even made the official announcement about the team's debut at the Barclays Center.
He's involved in the video game business
Jay-Z's basketball fandom has extended into the video game world. He served as an executive producer for the game "NBA 2K13," which was released on October 2. Obviously, he had tremendous input as far as the soundtrack for the game. In addition to his own music, he also got Kanye West, U2, and others to contribute to the soundtrack. He also had a lot of say as far as the game content itself, and even recommended the addition of the famous Olympic teams from 1992 and 2012.
