LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Could Paul Giamatti be in line to replace Sean Penn as a big screen "Stooge"?
According to a report by The Boston Globe, Giamatti has been tapped to replace Penn in the role of Larry in the upcoming "The Three Stooges" film, alongside the previously reported Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro.

Penn pulled out of the film earlier this summer citing a desire to focus on his family.
And while the Globe reported Giamatti was in, they also hinted that Carrey could be out as Curly as well, citing an interview with director Peter Farrelly.

However, a rep for Giamatti told Access Hollywood nothing was set in stone.
"That is not true at this time," the rep said on Monday, when asked about the Globe's report.
Described as "a Three Stooges film set in the present day," the film will chronicle how the legendary comedic trio came together.
