It's been a full week since
Kris Allen was named the new
American Idol, but things still haven't set in for the last man standing -- or his runner-up,
Adam Lambert.
"We haven't had time to breathe [yet], so, no, it hasn't sunk in," Allen says with a laugh.
The new champ -- who sat down with Usmagazine.com for an exclusive interview in NYC Tuesday -- admits he was just as convinced things could end up in Lambert's favor.
"I don't know why I won [over Adam]," he tells Us. "Were totally different musically, and this went my way. I dont know why. Probably my whole appeal appeals to more people than Adams does."
See 20 photos from the Idol finale!A show highlight for both singers? Last week's mega-watt finale, which featured Allen performing with
Keith Urban and Lambert taking the stage with Kiss.
Dubbed "Glambert" by
Idol fans, Lambert says his over-the-top costume helped make his performance memorable.
Check out what Idol stylists had to say about Adam's edgy style."I got to wear a
really cool costume!" he reveals, adding that he wore his own personal glitter platform boots. "We had pyro and I wasn't flammable -- I didn't go up in flames -- so everything was
great."
Allen was equally impressed with the opportunity to take the stage with Urban.
"I met [him] the day before [we performed] and he was really just a laid-back guy... He told me, 'Go out there and have fun, mate," the singer says, in a faux-Aussie accent.
Revisit the American Idol top 13.Now that the series has wrapped, Allen and Lambert are taking their bromance on the road, for the annual summer concert tour featuring the top 10 contestants. But don't expect any fist-fights over for the top bunk bed on the tour bus -- Allen is happy to concede.
"I don't care," Allen says. Lambert's excited reply? "I
like the top!"
