Each year around this time we pause to celebrate mothers everywhere. Whether you're a biological mom, a step-mom, or a foster mom, this is the time of year we take a moment to say "Thank you" to one and all who play the part every day. Being a mother takes kindness, patience and a great deal of humor to get through it.
As we inch closer to Mother's Day, we thought it would be fun to look at the moms that have humor by the boat load. These are moms that can crack up their kids and audiences alike. Laughter is a great tension breaker, and we imagine these ladies' homes must be overflowing with it.
Amy Poehler - Amy's two kids must laugh almost non-stop. As the star of NBC's hit comedy "Parks and Recreation," Poehler plays Leslie Knope every week and continually delivers a hilarious and quirky performance. She's also a founding member of The Upright Citizens Brigade, a renowned improvisational comedy troupe that has theaters in New York City and Los Angeles. If Amy's just feeling funny one day, she can always fall back on her hilarious husband Will Arnett to pick up the slack.
Tina Fey - Fey has two daughters, and if there is any justice in the universe one or both of her girls will take after Mommy. Widely regarded as one of, if not the funniest woman in showbiz today, Fey is the co-creator and star of "30 Rock," a joke machine of a sitcom that's based on Tina's experience as the head-writer on "Saturday Night Live." Tina's also a winner of the highest comedic honor an American humorist can receive. In 2010 she was given the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, joining the list of recipients that includes George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Steve Martin.
Maya Rudolph - Whether she's cracking audiences up as Kristen Wiig's best friend in "Bridesmaids" or as the Oprah-alike diva talk-show host Ava on "Up All Night," Maya is one funny woman. She was a regular cast member on "Saturday Night Live" just like Poehler, and she has proven over and over again that she can keep up with the best in the business. She and her partner, director P.T. Anderson have three children together ranging in age from six to not quite a year old.
Melissa McCarthy - Melissa is the only one on this list with an Academy Award nomination, which she got for her tremendous, scene-stealing work in "Bridesmaids." She's also the star of the CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly." Melissa and her husband Ben Falcone have two daughter together, and thanks to the the Oscar nod, we predict nothing but more hilarious and fun work coming from Melissa in the future.
