Gwyneth Paltrow revealed some sad, personal news over the weekend: She had a miscarriage with her third child - and she almost died from it.
"I had a really bad experience when I was pregnant with my third. It didn't work out and I nearly died. So I am like, 'Are we good here, or should we go back and try again?'" she told the U.K. Daily Mail.
Her husband, Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, helped her get through the pain. They might even consider having a third child in the future, especially considering that kids Apple and Moses want a baby sibling.
"My children ask me to have a baby all the time. And you never know, I could squeeze one more in," the 40-year-old said.
Sadly, Paltrow isn't the only celebrity to experience such a traumatic event.
Bethenny Frankel is known for building a multi-million dollar business, but even someone as "with it" as Frankel is not immune to miscarriages.
The former "Real Housewives of New York" star told Glamour in 2012 that she and now-estranged husband Jason Hoppy were thrilled to be pregnant with a sibling for Bryn, but she miscarried.
"You're 41. You had bleeding. There's nothing you could have done," her doctor said.
"And I hadn't done anything," Frankel added. "Since I'd found out, I'd been lying down for an hour or two a day and letting others take up the slack. But I blamed myself - of course I did."
Beyonce might be a doting mom to baby Blue Ivy Carter now, but even she experienced the pain that comes with miscarriage. The singer revealed her pain in her new documentary, "Life is But a Dream."
"I picked out names," she said of the experience. "I envisioned what my child would look like . . . I was feeling very maternal."
Everything changed when she went back to New York for a doctor's appointment.
"Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat," she said.
Eventually she was blessed with her daughter, but she added that the experience made her hesitant to share her pregnancy with the world.
E! "Fashion Police" host Giuliana Rancic had her fair share of health problems, including breast cancer and fertility issues. She even documented her miscarriage on her reality show, "Giuliana and Bill."
"Our pregnancy was going beautifully. We had told our family. We had confided in people and told them and we were just thrilled," she said in 2010. Then the doctor told them they miscarried.
"He said it was a chromosomal issue - that it was actually a blessing in disguise. The body was doing its job."
That doesn't make it easier, though.
