Gwyneth Paltrow on Marriage and Having Affairs

Gwyneth Paltrow is Harper's Bazaar's March cover girl, where besides showing a whole lot of leg in a racy Anthony Vaccarello gown, she gives an unusually candid interview discussing everything from her marriage to husband Chris Martin, her much talked-about diet and even her thoughts on the touchy subject of infidelity.

"I had a boyfriend that used to cheat on me all the time," Paltrow reveals to the magazine, whose famous exes include both Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. "I was quite naive. I knew on a cellular level, but I bought his story."

But that's not to say she condemns those who have had affairs.

"The older I get, the more open-minded I get, the less judgmental I get," she says. "Life is long. I have friends who I love and admire who have had an affair. When I was younger, I would have said he's a terrible person or she's a terrible person. But who made these laws?"

Although she makes it clear that there is no infidelity when it comes to her marriage with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin (who she describes as "very communicative"), she also doesn't claim to have the perfect relationship.

"I think you do fall in and out of love and you just keep going, and every time you go through a really difficult phase, you rediscover something new and it just gets better. We've been married for more than eight years now, and we're still into it."

And what about her often-mocked diets?

According to Paltrow, she actually "eats whatever [she] wants" -- that is, when she's not detoxing.

"I like bread and cheese and wine, and that makes my life fun and enjoyable," she says surprisingly.

The March issue of Harper's Bazaar hits newsstands on February 14.

really? i think whatever is a good relationship to both ought to stick to it. open, polyamourous, gay, lesbian ,straight, bdsm. its when both people decide whats good for them and not letting others judge it. also the fact that when its infidelity thats defined by both partners if those boundaries are broken. marriage does not have to decree one type.

"Who made these laws"? God did. She might think a little differently if her husband had an affair. Affairs just sell yourself short and disrespect your spouse. I don't like divorce, but there are other options than having an affair. Why disgrace your marriage and dishonor your spouse?
