Grammy Predictions for the Major Rock Categories

Will Coldplay score at the Grammy Awards this year?

The rock categories at the Grammy Awards are fan favorites and many are already taking guesses about who's going to be a winner. It's hard to find someone who doesn't like at least one or two rock songs, so plenty have an opinion on who should win. From the five major rock categories, who's going to walk away with an award?

    Best Rock Performance

The nominees are "Down By The Water" by The Decemberists, "The Cave" by Mumford & Sons, "Walk" by the Foo Fighters, "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" by Coldplay, and "Lotus Flower" by Radiohead. It wasn't that long ago when many didn't know who Mumford & Sons were. Now, they have an excellent chance of walking away with an award. They've developed quite a following and could grab enough attention from the Academy to get the Grammy.

    Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance

" Public Enemy No.1" by Megadeath, "Blood In My Eyes" by Sum 41, "White Limo" by Foo Fighters, "Curl of the Burl" by Mastodon, and "On The Backs of Angels" by Dream Theater are the nominees. "White Limo" could very well walk away with the surprise win. Some would probably lean more toward Megadeath because, other than their talent, they're veterans in the industry, but Foo Fighters might have more appeal due to being a more "current" band.

    Best Rock Song

" Lotus Flower" by Radiohead, "Walk" by the Foo Fighters, "Down By The Water" by The Decemberists, "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" by Coldplay, and "The Cave" by Mumford & Sons are the nominees . It's going to be a huge surprise if "The Cave" doesn't win the Grammy. It's a great song that many in the Academy are likely familiar with probably more so than the other songs in the category.

    Best Rock Album

The nominees are "Wasting Light" by Foo Fighters, "I'm With You" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Rock 'N' Roll Party Honoring Les Paul" by Jeff Beck, "The Whole Love" by Wilco, and "Come Around Sundown" by Kings of Leon. "Wasting Light" is highly likely going to win the award although "I'm With You" could be the surprise win. The former is one of the best albums in the bunch and could knock out 16 time nominated (6 time winner) Grammy favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers unless the Academy decides it's about time they win another award.

    Best Alternative Music Album

" The King of Limbs" by Radiohead, "Torches" by Foster the People, "Circuital" by My Morning Jacket, "Codes and Keys" by Death Cab For Cutie, and "Bon Iver" by Bon Iver are the nominees. Death Cab For Cutie has been nominated three times before. They obviously already have the attention of the Academy, so the fourth time might be their chance to win it. However, Bon Iver definitely made a great album, so he could be the quiet but powerful competition who takes the surprise win.

Who are your favorites to win in the rock categories?
