Last night, FOX announced the fall 2013 premiere dates for its shows, including "The X Factor," "Glee," and "New Girl."
"Glee" season 5 will premiere on Thursday September 19 at 9pm ET/PT.
This announcement comes at an appropriate time for two reasons: the first has to do with yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, which requires the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages in states where it is legal. The second has to do with a video in which the show's cast members talked about what they would say to their TV characters.
Does Darren Criss Want Blaine To Propose To Kurt?
The season 4 finale left us with a cliffhanger as Blaine (Criss) considered proposing to his ex-boyfriend/likely soul mate Kurt (Chris Colfer). While romantic Blaine was eager to put a ring on it, Darren seemed to be giving his TV counterpart a reality check.
As Darren commented, "I would sit Blaine down and say listen. You know, the whole Kurt thing, very uncool. I understand you want to get married, but you're a bit young. So cool your jets, mate, and yeah, you'll be fine."
Should Blaine Propose To Kurt?
Besides, Blaine's behavior last season was bordering on creepy. Up until the season finale, Kurt had been making it clear that they were no longer an official couple, yet Blaine continued to pursue the issue. I get that Blaine is truly sorry for cheating on Kurt and causing their breakup, but if he really loved Kurt, then he would respect his wishes not to be in a relationship at this time.
And if World's Greatest TV Dad Burt (Mike O'Malley) is telling Blaine to wait, then we know that the writers agree -- at least for now. If "Klaine" is meant to be, then it will happen in its own time.
"If I Could Talk To My Character"
Other cast members also weighed in on the "If I Could Talk To My Character" segment. One of my favorite responses came from Jenna Ushkowitz who told Tina, "You've got a lot of growing up to do. So be patient, smile. Appreciate where you are. Love your friends."
When Kevin McHale pointed out that "she's a bit mean this year," Jenna defended her character, arguing, "She's got to find herself! She's finding herself okay?"
My other favorite response came from Vanessa Lengies who answered, "I would say to Sugar that you did it! You really were a terrible singer and you just won regionals. Somehow, you stayed in the glee club and pulled on through. I'm really proud of you."
The most ridiculous response came from Alex Newell. "If Unique and I could have a pow wow, I'd say, 'Hey girl, you need to cut back on the high heels.'" Really? Catfish Unique stalked, lied to, and manipulated Ryder (Blake Jenner) for months, and all Alex can talk about is high heels? I guess it's possible that there was more to the interview, and that not all of the footage made it into the video.
Interestingly enough, Blake's advice to Ryder was "It gets better."
What advice would you give the characters on "Glee"? Are you rooting for a "Klaine" wedding? Or does Blaine need to "cool his jets"?
