LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Taylor Swift sparkled in
shiny Kaufman Franco and Christina Aguilera's slinky slate-colored
Monique Lhuillier looked like molten metal. They are just a couple
of the stars positively shining in silver gowns on the red carpet.
From a lot of sparkle to just a little shine - there are several
ways to get the festive look, which is perfect for celebrating New
Year's Eve.
1. HIGH HO SILVER!
You don't have to spend a fortune on a designer gown to get in on
the silver trend. "90210" star AnnaLynne McCord wore a sleek,
sleeveless Simply Vera Vera Wang top to the "Twilight" premiere
that cost just $54! www.kohls.com

Another affordable option - Banana Republic's sophisticated
metallic sheath dress in Silver Lake features a detailed pleated
neckline and looks like something Victoria Beckham would wear. $150
at Banana Republic stores and at www.bananarepublic.com
2. ACCESSORIES
Silver shoes and purses are easy - they never go out of style.
Patricia Field designed a funky gladiator-inspired pewter platform
sandal that Carrie Bradshaw would love! It's on sale at Payless for
$21. Matching coin purse, which can be used as a clutch is $12.99.

3. HAIR
Think of it as jewelry for the hair! Go for a vintage crystal
brooch that you can pin in your locks, or a silver headband.
Forever 21 has cute silver sequined headbands that are dirt cheap.
Target has a whole range of affordable headbands. Jennifer Behr -
whose high-end hair accessories are a constant fixture on "Gossip
Girl", has created an affordable band for Target. Her crystal
adorned headband is perfect for holiday parties and sells for
$29.99. Target also has silver satin and velvet headbands... all on
sale for less than $15. www.target.com
4. MAKEUP
MAC's Senior Artist, John Stapleton, who has worked with Hilary
Duff and Jenny McCarthy, shows us how to create a silvery holiday
makeup look.
Start with "Teddy," a brown-colored eye pencil, and line it
inside the eye. Draw a thick line on the top eyelid with the
pencil. Next, take MAC's Wisteria Eye Trio Palette from the
limited-edition "Dame Edna" collection and smudge Divine Night, a
frosty charcoal with silver pearl shadow, with a flat, firm brush
like MAC's Brush 252 along the outer lid of the eye. Next, press
Fineshine, a frosty true silver shadow on the lid and blend it all
together with a soft brush through the crease. Use the frosty
robin's egg blue called Wisteria at the inside corners of the eye
finishing up with black mascara on the top and bottom lashes. The
"Dame Edna " collection is available at all M.A.C. locations and at
www.maccosmetics.com
5. NAILS
Still too much silver for you? Then go for just a touch of metallic
with your nails. Superstar Nail Lacquer, which Courteney Cox and
Laura Dern have, does the trick in "Silver Screen." $8.50 available
at www.styleshoppe.com
and select salons nationwide.
