Giuliana and Bill Rancic are expecting their first child via a gestational surrogate.

"We are so thrilled that our prayers have been answered," the E! News anchor said in a statement. Added Bill, "We are absolutely ecstatic to be sharing this with everyone who has been following our journey."

The baby, who will be the couple's biological child, is due in late summer. The two know the sex, but are not revealing it yet, they said on Monday's Today show.

The Rancics, who've been married since 2007, have tried for years for a baby and their struggles — multiple in vitro treatments and a miscarriage — have been well documented on their reality series Giuliana & Bill. During Giuliana's third round of in vitro last summer, she learned that she had early stages of breast cancer. She later underwent a double mastectomy and is now cancer-free.

It was that fertility clinic that hooked the Rancics up with a surrogacy agency. The couple had banked two embryos prior to Giuliana's cancer diagnosis and implanted both into their surrogate; one took. Their surrogate lives out of state, but Giuliana, 37, and Bill, 40, visit her monthly and accompany her to all her doctor appointments, she said.

Giuliana Rancic: I have early stages of breast cancer

"It was pretty much one of the best moments of my life, if not the best moment of my life," Giuliana said of the moment she learned of the pregnancy. "We just had a hard year last year with the breast cancer. To finally get that call from the doctor ... it was just another world! On another level."
