George Clooney & Don Cheadle Honored By Nobel Prize Recipients

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 27, 2007) - George Clooney and Don Cheadle, long-time friends and co-stars of the "Oceans" films are set to received a distinguished honor.

Clooney and Cheadle will receive the 2007 Peace Summit Award by a collection of Nobel laureates honoring honor their efforts to bring peace to Africa's war-torn Darfur region, according to a report in People.

The World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, which includes former President Jimmy Carter, the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Soviet President Michael Gorbachev, will present the actors their award at it's annual meeting in Rome in December.

"I am always moved when I see artists such as George and Don use their positions to speak up for the most vulnerable of our fellow human beings," Archbishop Tutu said in a statement, according to the peace and human rights website TheCommunity.com. "They have brought the suffering in Sudan into the awareness of millions, and have raised tens of millions of dollars to assist the victims of violence there. They inspire us all and show that every person, in every walk of life, can do something to help make the world a better place."

Clooney and Cheadle have visited the war ravaged nation and worked with government leaders to bring greater world attention to the plight of suffering refugees. They both also appeared in the documentary, "Darfur Now."
