Fourth 'Transformers' shapes up for Bay to direct

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Director Michael Bay plans a fresh take on shape-shifting robots with the fourth installment in his "Transformers" franchise.

Paramount Pictures announced Monday night that Bay will return to direct the next chapter in the blockbuster sci-fi series, due in theaters June 29, 2014.

Bay's third movie based on the Hasbro toy line, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," came out last summer and took in $1.1 billion worldwide.

The studio's announcement said the next "Transformers" will be a new take — which probably is necessary since star Shia LaBeouf said last summer that he would not return for a fourth movie. Bay's production team will be back, though, including Steven Spielberg as executive producer.

The "Transformers" sequel is part of a two-picture deal for Bay at Paramount. First, he'll direct Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in the crime tale "Pain and Gain," based on a true story about Florida bodybuilders involved in extortion, kidnapping and murder.

Filming on "Pain and Gain" is expected to start this spring.

I still don't understand why these highly sophisticated machines spend most of the movie low-teching it by trying to physically punch each others' lights out.

And the last one disappointed me. They destroyed Chicago but somehow missed my work building. That's the only reason I watched it. :(

Too funny; I'm from Chicago - was home for Christmas, but live in Florida - miss the city everyday....

Maybe for the fouth movie they could exclude all human actors and only focus the robots.

Will we see the Dinobots? The Aerialbots? The Stunticons? I absolutely HATED what they did with Devastator in movie #2, that could be improved GREATLY. hint hint, Michael Bay.

I want a Generation 1 movie set in 1980's Southwest, like the original series!
And they need to rethink the way the 'bots look. And less Human-Angst...More Bot-Appeal!!!
        (Anyone else agree?!)

I heard Megatron doesn't want to come back either. I heard he wants more money. Also, he doesn't get along well with Optimus Prime on set. He said Prime is a Diva.

I doubt losing Shia will impact the box office earnings? I mean seriously, you can put a no-name actor in that role and still make a billion in the box office. People don't go see Transformers for Shia.

A new writer, producer and director are much needed for this. I thought the last one was the last we'd see of Bay.

I think they should do a prequel on Cybertron showing the start of the Civil War.

gawd. we need a fresh new take on transformers. michael bay makes shaky-messy movies disguise as quality action films. he may be able to fool those movie going idiots for now, but not for long.

Shia LeDouche was the worst part about all three movies. He can't act and should have been squished by any one of the Decepticons...or Autobots.

What bums me is the language, these are the silver screen versions of cartoon I loved to watch as a kid. They did just as many good deeds back then WITHOUT so many ugly words actors AUTOBOTS or DECIPTICONS none of them used foul language.

I got a suggestion for the Fourth Movie: Transformers VS Gundam The Fight For Earth: Or just bring in the Dinobots/Predaking and Unicron/Omega Supreme

Thank god. Even Megatron can act better than Shia LaBeouf.
