Five Random Things that Make Actress Tilda Swinton Even More Fascinating

    Tilda Swinton

Every once in a while you run across an actress who really intrigues audiences. Tilda Swinton happens to be one of those people. The Scottish actress is noted for her intense acting skills---an almost clinical approach to life on screen. The "Benjamin Button" star is just as noted for her avant-garde private life and personal opinions. Just recently, she made headlines for the striking revelation that at 4 years old, she intended to murder her baby brother---merely because she was devastated that he was the 'third boy' in the family. (Yikes!) But her life appears to be filled with hundreds of interesting tidbits that make her one of Hollywood's most fascinating people.

Her love life isn't as racy as you think.

Tilda piqued everyone's attention when it was revealed that she was living a saucy, polyamorous lifestyle with two men: John Byrne (20+ years her senior) and father of her twins, and Sandro Kopp an artist 17 years her junior. Our brains were filled with all sorts of sordid scenarios--the stuff that spicy indie films are made of. Alas, the world was a bit misinformed about her love life, as was confirmed during an interview with Katie Couric. Indeed she and Kopp had been involved for years. But romance with partner John Byrne had ended long ago.

She slept in a glass case for a week.

For some reason, when we think of the avant-garde roles Swinton has undertaken in her acting career, something as mundane as sleeping in a glass case doesn't seem too bizarre at all. But in 1995, she put herself on display in a glass case as an art installation at a gallery in London. She slept for at least 8 hours each day inside the case, for a week. Something like this was done on an episode of "Sex and the City", which perhaps paid homage to this art installation, although Tilda isn't the first subject of this kind.

According to her, being famous like being smeared in honey and letting ants have a go at you.

Ok, so not exactly. But Tilda did use this bizarre analogy to describe the patience it must require to be both a revered actor and a sex symbol like George Clooney (her "Michael Clayton" co-star).

Eating pies helped her to prepare for film "Michael Clayton."

Though Tilda's steely role in 2007 hit "Michael Clayton" earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she admits that she needed a little help to get into her character's shoes. To gain extra weight, and add a slight air of vulnerability to her Karen Crowder role, she ate lots of pies. To burn of the pounds, she went back to her normal eating habits.

    She has a third nipple.

Yep, this is probably more information than you cared to have. But it is indeed one of Tilda's little curious truths. The condition has affected more than one famous person, including singer Lily Allen. Like other oddities in her life, she's also taken this one in stride-perhaps is even quite proud of it. She may not have murdered any of her brothers. But she's admitted that she used that third nipple to "threaten" them.
