This year was definitely the year of top-secret celebrity nuptials and gorgeous celebrity brides! Quite a few famous faces walked down the aisle in 2012 under the veil of secrecy, but shared details of their fairytale weddings shortly after. Here's a look back at some of the A-list ladies who made a trip to the altar this year:
After starring in a movie like "The Devil Wears Prada" it should come as no surprise that blushing bride Anne Hathaway was willing to take a big fashion risk for her big day. The "Les Miserables" beauty donned a strapless Valentino wedding dress, which featured a hint of pink shading on the train at her September 29 wedding. However, the real shining star was the wide lace ribbon headpiece adorned with a large beaded flower. The headpiece looked like she may have been trying to cover up her super-short haircut from her starring role as Fantine or perhaps she was just going for a whimsical, playful look.
Hathaway and her boyfriend of four years, Adam Shulman, chose the picturesque location of Big Sur, California, for their A-list nuptials and the pixie-like princess spared no expense at making her ceremony picture-perfect. The 30-year-old opted for nature-inspired décor like foliage branches, and she served her guests a vegan menu including veggie burgers and cupcakes. PETA was so impressed with her menu that the organization adopted a rescue steer named Peter in her honor. In addition to their kudos from PETA, the cute duo also received Hollywood cool points for donating part of the proceeds from selling their wedding photos to various charities.
In order to keep their ceremony location a secret, Hathaway required guests to wear special bracelets in order to board shuttles to the venue. Smart thinking!
Jessica Biel also decided to think pink for her wedding dress and stunned in a Giambattista Valli gown, fit for a princess. The gorgeous bride was "glowing" according to friends and family who attended her October 19 wedding to former N'SYNC star, Justin Timberlake. Perhaps, Timberlake gave Biel a hand in choosing her dress; he's been known to help his leading lady choose what to wear for other big moments.
Despite rumors that they would hold their wedding in Biel's native Colorado, the pair set a more romantic tone by opting for a destination wedding at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Puglia, Italy. The "Total Recall" actress described it as a "total fantasy experience" and their weekend was filled with romantic moments, including Timberlake's decision to serenade his wife with a song he wrote especially for the occasion. The "Friends with Benefits" hunk also gave his bride a wonderful way to remember her big day: Instead of one wedding band, he gifted her with four stackable bands to pair with her gorgeous engagement ring.
Biel also kept her nuptials top secret, even keeping wedding attendees like Jimmy Fallon and Andy Samberg in the dark. She later revealed to David Letterman that she came up with a "crazy CIA operative kind of scheme" in order to keep her wedding date and location a secret from the press.
Like Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman decided that scenic Big Sur was the perfect location for her early August wedding. However, unlike the brides above, she opted for a very plain dress - a tea-length Rodarte gown with a sheer overlay that covered her arms and chest - for her walk down the aisle. She finished off her bridal look with a veil and floral crown. Considering all the gorgeous gowns the "Black Swan" actress has worn, it wasn't a very flashy look, but she looked stunning nonetheless.
Portman's wedding was simple yet classic and reflected her Jewish faith as well as husband, Benjamin Millepied's French upbringing. The pair were married under a Jewish chuppah made of twigs and also danced the traditional Hora, where they were lifted up in chairs during the reception. They also opted for a vegan menu -- Portman is a well-known fan of the diet -- and famous guests like Ivanka Trump and Macaulay Culkin were treated to macarons instead of wedding cake. The 31-year-old went natural with her décor, choosing locally-sourced flowers to brighten the venue and she gave guests packets of flower seeds with 'merci' written on them as they left.
As for her new bling, Portman opted for a retro look for her wedding bands and chose two platinum bands to sandwich her engagement ring between.
When Drew Barrymore made her way down the aisle, all eyes were on her best accessory -- her baby bump. The 37-year-old said "I do" to art consultant Will Kopelman wearing a pleated muslin and organza Chanel dress embroidered with flowers and a black satin belt which accentuated her bump. The Karl Lagerfeld- designed frock oozed Hollywood glamour and was totally Drew!
The expectant parents feted their friends and family -- which included Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Steven Spielberg and Jimmy Fallon -- with an intimate Jewish wedding held in the "Never Been Kissed" star's Montecito, California, backyard. The June 2 wedding was clearly filled with love: Barrymore and Kopelman shared their first dance to Band of Horses' "No One's Gonna Love You" and their close pal, Cameron Diaz, shared a reading of E.E. Cummings poem "I Carry Your Heart with Me."
Natural décor seemed to be a big celeb wedding trend in 2012. Barrymore's "vintage romantic" theme was described as being garden-inspired with lots of green garlands, pink flowers and vintage lace. Speaking on vintage -- the newlyweds left the ceremony in a classic Mercedes convertible covered with pink roses.
Blake Lively surprised everyone when she and Ryan Reynold's tied the knot without ever announcing an engagement. The "Gossip Girl" star wore a Marchesa gown featuring crystal and rose embroidery on its hand-draped silk tulle bodice. However, you'll have to trust Martha Stewart's word that she made a beautiful bride - photos of Blake and Ryan Reynolds' big day won't make their debut until the December issue of Martha Stewart Weddings hits stands.
Stewart and the "Green Lantern" couple are neighbors, and it sounds like Lively shares the domestic diva's love of event planning -- she gathered 250 photos of elements to be incorporated in her secret September 9 nuptials which took place at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The southern locale was also the film location for the ultra-romantic movie, "The Notebook." The ceremony was held in a rustic barn, and a children's choir sang as Lively walked down an aisle strewn with pine needles. Candles provided a romantic glow, but the ceremony wasn't all about romance - the couple's pooches gave the wedding a playful touch by playing a part in it.
Florence and the Machine performed at the reception, where a $3,000 cake was served and guests were also treated to a fun "carnival hour." Celeb attendees besides the band and Martha Stewart included Blake's Lively's "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" costars America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn.
A day after the wedding, the striking was spotted wearing a huge sparkler -- a Lorraine Schwartz 12-carat, pale pink diamond solitaire set in rose gold -- that could be worth $2 million.
So which of these beautiful celebrity brides do you think had the best wedding of 2012?
