Season Three of
"Keeping up with the Kardashians" starts this week, and we wonder if anyone missed Kim Kardashian LESS than we have. What is the fascination with this girl? Why is she famous? Of course, Kim's not the first celebrity to be famous for being famous -- or, as we like to call it, "FfBF." She's just one in a long line of celebs who we can't figure out why we know them.
But how do they become famous in the first place? We decided to break it down. To be FfBF, you don't need to have any talent or skill; you just need to meet one or more of these three criteria:
INHERITED FAME: Be born into a famous family/have a famous sibling
FAME BY ASSOCIATION: Marry a famous person or hang out with famous people
SCANDAL JACKPOT: Be involved in some kind of crime (preferably a DUI) or compromising Internet video.
Of course, the more of these criteria you can meet, the higher your FfBF status. Here we count down the best of the best.

10.
Brody Jenner
Brody has the first two bases covered. His dad is Olympic Decathlete Bruce Jenner. His stepsister is FfBF queen Kim Kardashian. And just in case his relatives don't clinch the deal, he has dated every FfBF girl he can get his hands on:
"The Hills'" Lauren Conrad, Lionel Richie's daughter Nicole Richie, and "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County's" Kristin Cavallari. He's got all this and no talent to speak of -- the perfect recipe for undeserved fame. Of course, his notoriety has garnered him some reality TV shows gigs, including "The Hills,"
"The Princes of Malibu" (which lasted only two episodes), and
"Bromance" (which managed to make it a full season.)
9.
Nicole Richie
Nicole got a bum deal. We all know she's where she is because she has a famous dad, Lionel Richie. But she's adopted, so she didn't even have a chance of inheriting the gene pool with the talent. Instead, she's famous for being too skinny and driving the wrong way down a freeway. Lately, she's managed to stay under the radar and find pleasure in the real-world "Simple Life" with her seemingly low-drama family with boyfriend Joel Madden (of Good Charlotte), baby Harlow, and a second child on the way.
8.
Kato Kaelin
Kato's shot at earned stardom was over before it even started. In 1986, aspiring actor Kato shot a Coke commercial and then did a low-budget comedy called "Beach Fever." But he didn't find fame until 1994 when he became the best-known houseguest in history and a peripheral witness in the O.J. Simpson murder trial. His acting career was pretty much shot, but his brush with fame had just begun. "Howard Stern," "The Norm Show," "The Mr. Show," "Sunset Tan," and "Celebrity Boot Camp" followed. There's no stopping Kato. Then again, maybe there is. For several years he's been shopping his own reality show, "Houseguest" (where he knocks on strangers' doors and asks if he can live with them). So far, he's found no takers for the living arrangements -- or the show.
7.
Pia Zadora
Pia had already made one movie, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians," when she met and married Meshulam Riklis, an Israeli businessman who owned the Riviera hotel Faberge and was a shareholder in a Dubonnet distribution company. It's probably not a coincidence that Pia's first big break came as the Dubonnet girl. In 1982 she won the Golden Globe New Star of the Year Award for her role in "Butterfly." But since she was also given two Golden Raspberry Awards that year (Worst Newcomer and Worst Actress), we wonder if there was a bit of truth to the rumor that Riklis "bought" the Golden Globe for Pia through an intense promotional campaign.
6.
Kim Kardashian
Three years ago no one knew who Kim Kardashian was. Then a little "home video" surfaced on the Internet of Kim with her FfBF boyfriend Ray J (aka singer Brandy's brother). From then on Kim and her big butt were the talk of the town. A reality TV show, a "Disaster Movie," and
"Dancing With the Stars" solidified her spot on our list by showing just how incredibly untalented she is. Of course, you can't blame it all on Kim. When O.J. Simpson is your godfather, good role models are few and far between.
5.
Edie Sedgwick
Edie had a few more than 15 minutes of fame, thanks to Andy Warhol. The socialite from old school New England blue blood wound up at Warhol's Factory in 1965 and soon became the star of all his movies, from "Poor Little Rich Girl" to "Chelsea Girls." Unfortunately for Edie, once she left the inner circle of the Factory and tried acting in the real world, she was in for a dose of reality. Her friendship with Bob Dylan kept her in the spotlight, but acting career success eluded her. Sienna Miller would portray the fallen socialite in the 2006 film "Factory Girl."
4.
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Zsa Zsa's biggest claim to fame? People think she's her sister Eva, who starred in TV's "Green Acres." And despite the fact that Zsa Zsa has appeared in over 80 movies and TV shows, she is best known for her nine marriages and for slapping a cop who pulled her over for a moving violation in 1989.
3.
Jack Osbourne
Jack is a member of an elite FfBF club of rock star kids. Some of them -- like Rufus Wainwright, Stella McCartney, and Jakob Dylan -- stay out of the public eye as kids and then earn their respected place in their chosen profession as adults. Others, like Kim Stewart and Jack Osbourne, are hurled into the spotlight and left to fight to the death in the paparazzi gladiator ring. When MTV's Emmy-winning show "The Osbournes" hit the air, Jack was just Ozzy's chubby son. Next thing you know, Jack is Ozzy's chubby FAMOUS son. With no real talent to back it all up, Jack turned to drugs. He has managed to beat his demons after a stint in adolescent rehab. These days Jack can be found hosting the reality series "Adrenaline Junkie," looking toned and healthy. Rock on, Jack!
2.
Charo
In 1966, at age 20 (or somewhere between 13 and 25, depending on which report you read), Charo married 60-year-old bandleader Xavier Cugat. The marriage brought the Spanish cuchi-cuchi girl instant fame. Charo was actually quite an accomplished flamenco guitar player, though the fact that most people don't know that about her supports our theory that she is famous for being famous. She managed to land a spot on almost every hit '70s TV show, including "The Love Boat," "Donny & Marie," "Tony Orlando and Dawn," "The Captain and Tennille," "The John Davidson Show," and "The Mike Douglas Show." These days she still makes the occasional appearance on VH1's "I Love the '70s" and
"RuPaul's Drag Race." Could "Dancing with the Stars" be next?
1.
Paris Hilton
Paris is the queen of the famous for being famous crowd. Sure, she has perfumes and jewelry lines, CDs and TV shows, but we all know it's true: Paris is famous because she's rich. Heir to the Hilton hotel fortune, she's led a charmed life with everything she's desired handed to her on a 24-carat, gold-plated, diamond-encrusted platter. And try as she might to mess it up (including several DUIs, her less-than-G-rated "One Night in Paris" video, not to mention jail time), Paris lands on her feet. The 2007 "Guinness Book of World Records" cites Paris as the world's "Most Overrated Celebrity." We would have to agree.
