If you wanted to woo girls in the '80s, you needed one thing: a boom box.
That's what Adam (Sean Giambrone) will use on the Oct. 15 episode of The Goldbergs after he gets a major crush on his neighbor Mandy (Natalie Alyn Lind) — because, like most of us, everything he knows about romance, he learned from the movies. When his dad (Jeff Garlin) tells him to man up and make a move, Adam takes a page out of Lloyd Dobler's (John Cusack) book in Say Anything and hoists a boom box outside of Mandy's bedroom window. No word yet if it's also blasting "In Your Eyes."
Vote: Which fall premieres won you over? Which flopped?
Recreating the scene was the next best thing for the show. Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg told TVGuide.com last month that he wanted to use a clip from the film, but couldn't get rights. "I was hoping it'd work out. It's such an iconic scene," he said.

The Goldbergs airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
