It's going to be a great year for former "Hills" star Jason Wahler!
The "Laguna Beach" alum, who turns 26 on January 11, proposed to model Ashley Slack in November, but the couple managed to keep their big news under wraps until recently. Ashley broke the news on her Facebook page, saying "I said yes! I am the happiest girl in the whole wide world and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend." Jason, in turn, shared an Instagram photo of the gorgeous ring, adding simply, "Love you babe."
Wahler, who's overcome multiple alcohol-related arrests, appeared on Dr. Drew's "Celebrity Rehab" in 2010. He was previously involved with costar Lauren Conrad and tennis player Katja Sadowski, to whom he was engaged. Calling Slack his "best friend," Jason said "This is the first relationship I've ever been in sober....It was just so natural and organic. We just hit it off." The pair have selected October 13, 2013, as their wedding date, and Wahler says they hope to start a family in a few years.
Congratulations are in order for Jason and Ashley, as well as several other couples who have kicked off the new year by getting engaged. Here's a look at some other high-profile pairs who are set to tie the knot.
Doug Reinhardt and Allie Lutz
Speaking of "The Hills," former costars Doug Reinhardt and Allie Lutz have announced their engagement. The pair dated in high school before appearing together on the hit show. Allie confirmed the news via Twitter, sharing a picture of the couple - and her enormous ring - with the caption "Cat's out of the bag… #engaged #bestfriend #highschoolsweetheart." Reinhardt is a former baseball player and was previously involved with Paris Hilton, Amanda Bynes, and Lauren Conrad.
George Lucas and Mellody Hobson
Forget the Imperial March - there's a wedding march in store for "Star Wars" creator George Lucas! After six years together, the 68-year-old director/producer popped the question to DreamWorks Animation chair Mellody Hobson, 43. A graduate of Princeton University, Hobson says their relationship works because both are "extraordinarily open-minded" and have "few preconceived ideas about what a partner should be like." Though this is Mellody's first marriage, George was previously wed to Marcia Griffin and has three adopted children.
Matt Dallas and Blue Hamilton
Actor Matt Dallas, best known for his roles in "Kyle XY" and "Eastwick," has announced his engagement to singer/songwriter Blue Hamilton. The 30-year-old Tweeted the news on January 6, saying "Starting off the year with a new fiancé, a great way to kick off 2013!" Though Dallas never spoke publicly about his homosexuality, he and Hamilton have reportedly been dating since 2009.
NeNe Leakes and Gregg Leakes
"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star NeNe Leakes is re-engaged to ex-husband Gregg! The 44-year-old mother of two shared the news on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, saying "A little after midnight [on New Year's Eve] I was asked this beautiful question: 'Will you marry me - again?'" The couple divorced in 2011 after 13 years of marriage, but rekindled their romance in 2012. The on-again pair have a 13-year-old son together, as well as NeNe's son from a previous relationship.
A.J. Buckley and Abigail Ochse
A.J. Buckley of "CSI: NY" made the most of New Year's Eve, proposing to girlfriend Abigail Ochse while on vacation in Hawaii. Buckley, 34, popped the question under a tree at Napili Beach's Turtle Bay; the spot has significant sentimental value for the pair, who scattered the ashes of A.J.'s father there last year. The "Supernatural" alum planned every moment of the proposal, hiding the vintage-style ring in a box of fireworks.
Congratulations to all the couples!
