Emma Watson is the latest star interested in doing an updated take on a classic fairytale character.
The "Harry Potter" actress is reportedly hoping to slip on Cinderella's glass slippers in a live adaption of Disney's animated classic. Some of Emma's fans will probably be thrilled to see the starlet return to a world of magic, even if the former witch needs a little help from a fairy godmother to turn a plain yellow pumpkin into a golden carriage.
If Emma does sign on to play Cinderella, she'll be facing off against Cate Blanchett as her evil stepmother, and she'll be joining a long list of celebs that have starred in live-action fairytale movies -- Kristen Stewart played Snow White in "Snow White and the Huntsman;" Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton recently starred in "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters;" Amanda Seyfried dealt with the big bad wolf in "Red Riding Hood;" beauty Vanessa Hudgens fell for a hairless beast in "Beastly;" and Nicholas Hoult's "Jack the Giant Slayer" just hit theaters. Elle Fanning will also star as Sleeping Beauty in the upcoming movie "Maleficent," while Angelina Jolie plays the titular evil fairy.
So with fairytale movies being so popular lately, that got us thinking -- who else should be cast as characters from popular fairytales? Here's a look at a few ideas:
Justin Bieber as Peter Pan
The ageless Biebs actually resembles the animated version of Peter Pan quite a bit, and he is trying to become an actor. He's also proved that he's not afraid of tight pants, but he might insist on donning tights with a drop crotch so that he'll resemble a flying squirrel when he soars over Neverland. Taylor Swift would make the perfect Tinkerbell in this movie musical, and Russell Brand has kind of auditioned for the role of Captain Hook already.
Zooey Deschanel as Thumbelina
This hipster queen is already "adorkable," but imagine how cute a mini Zooey would be sipping out of a thimble; using a spool of thread for a table; wearing flowers as hats; and sleeping in a matchbox? Obviously Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have to play her tiny fairy prince.
Jennifer Lawrence as The Little Mermaid
J-Law could star as a scrappier version of the little mermaid -- her legless heroine would own a trident and know how to use it, so the sea witch who steals her voice best beware. Bradley Cooper would obviously play Jen's prince since the "Silver Linings Playbook" costars keep signing on for the same projects.
Anne Hathaway as Rapunzel
Poor Anne Hathaway cried when she cut off all of her hair for "Les Miserables," so maybe she'd enjoy donning some super-long extensions and returning to her princess roots to portray Rapunzel. Ryan Gosling would obviously be her perfect prince since her hubby is a Gos lookalike.
