"The Bachelorette" star Emily Maynard called off her engagement to Jef Holm, the couple confirmed on Tuesday night in a cookie-cutter statement.
"I am sorry to tell you that Jef and I have, indeed, parted ways," Maynard told People. "It was a very difficult and heartbreaking decision. I have nothing but respect and love for Jef and his family, but ultimately we are just at different points in our lives."
Rumors of trouble in reality show paradise have been circulating for weeks, so we're not really surprised. Why were we expecting a split? Let's examine.
Reality Steve Confirmed the Split
Reality television fans are quiet familiar with Reality Steve. The blogger is nearly always right when it comes to reality show gossip - he broke the news that Sean Lowe is the next star of "The Bachelor," for example. And he was right about the split between Maynard and Holm.
"I don't care if you don't believe me. I don't care if you say I'm crazy. And I don't care if you have 1,000 questions for me," he wrote last week. "Until Jef and Emily officially go on the record and release a statement, I guess that's when you'll believe it, but I can tell you right now that Jef and Emily broke up this weekend. Done. Over. No longer engaged."
Holm's Ex-Girlfriend Said He's Been Texting Her
Holm wasn't really single when he left to film "The Bachelor," his now ex-girlfriend said. Kaylee Shepherd wrote a series of emails to Reality Steve confirming that he went to the show "just for fun."
"We never technically broke up," she wrote. "He just said he was going for fun. I've been checking your site everyday for weeks to see if I could figure out if he was still there. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from him yet."
Shepherd also told US Weekly of Holm's texts while he was supposedly happy with Maynard.
"He said the story was 100 percent accurate," Shepherd told the magazine of the texts between Maynard and a mystery man widely believed to be NFL player Matt Leinart. "When she put her phone down, [Jef] picked it up and read through everything. . . Jef said, 'It was that pro football guy . . . She strung me along and was talking to another guy the whole time!'"
It Always Seemed Like She Wanted Arie More
Maynard said she loved Holm because of his focus on family, but it seems like her heart was really with Arie the whole time.
"You know how I felt about you from our first date," Maynard told Arie when she turned him down on the show. "I never thought I'd have to make a choice between you and anybody. I always thought it would be me and you. I'm sorry."
It's not really surprising that these two didn't make it, but it's unfortunately that Maynard's daughter had to be pulled into all of it. At least now she's free to date host Chris Harrison.
