Ellen DeGeneres Donates $100K To Fight California's Proposition 8

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Popular comedienne Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly donated $100,000 to the No on Prop. 8 campaign initiative in California.

According to the No on Prop. 8 campaign, Ellen's donation goes towards a media buy aimed at encouraging those in her state to vote no on the ballot initiative, which seeks to define marriage in the California Constitution as between a man and a woman.

Ellen's media buy will take her public plea, which she released Tuesday on her show's Web site, to television airwaves in California, where it will attempt to sway voters.

"Hi, I'm Ellen DeGeneres," the talk show host said in the clip. "I got to do something this year I never thought I'd ever be able to do: I got married. It was the happiest day of my life. There are people out there raising millions of dollars to try and take that right away from me. You've seen their ads on TV. They're twisting the truth, and they're trying to scare you. I believe in fairness. I believe in compassion. I believe in equality for all people. Proposition 8 does not. Please, please, vote no on Prop. 8."

Ellen's contribution comes after a host of gay rights bloggers called her out for not donating immediately to fight the proposition.

While the No on Prop. 8 campaign provided no details concerning the total Ellen amount that donated, according to GLAAD, Ellen contributed $100,000, the same amount put in by Brad Pitt, who was the first celebrity to contribute to the cause. Steve Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw also donated $100,000 to No on Prop. 8. Pete Wentz and Fall Out Boy donated $50,000 as did T.R. Knight. Comedian Chelsea Handler donated $5,000.
