Unlike Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey and other stars who have signed on to be a part of the public memorial for Michael Jackson on Tuesday, Elizabeth Taylor refuses to attend.

See how Michael Jackson's face has changed over the years.

The star -- and dear friend to the late singer -- took to her Twitter account to confirm that she would not go to the Los Angeles event despite being asked to participate.

"Ive been asked to speak at the Staples Center," she wrote Monday. "I cannot be part of the public whoopla. And I cannot guarantee that I would be coherent to say a word."

Revisit the King of Pop's most unforgettable moments.

The actress, 77, wrote that she believes Jackson would not have wanted her to share her sorrow in public.

After expressing her sympathies for Jackson's mother, Katherine and his three children, Prince, 12, Paris, 11 and Blanket, 7, Taylor wrote that she "will always love" the King of Pop.

Look back on Michael Jackson's life.

"I just dont believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others. How I feel is between us," she posted. "Not a public event."

A moment later, she added: "I said I wouldn't go to the Staples Center, and I certainly don't want to become a part of it. I love him too much."

Wow another dead celebrity with more money than sense, seems to me if all the people who died of overdoses, prescription or not, would get a send off like this, this would quickly become the number one cause of death in this country. People die everyday through no fault of their own but yet we imortlize those who choose to go out this way.

first off.."blanket" according to MJ meant blessings, he always asked his dancers and staff to "blanket" him before his performances i.e. shower him with blessings..its a sweet endearing name, which is only fitting for his son whom he loved so much.. secondly...wht the heck was mariah carey thinking when she decided to where tht dress to the memorial...hello? no

Blanket isn't his real name. It's his nickname. His real name is Prince II.

I think Ms. Taylor's decision is that of a true friend that just loved him for who he was. Nothing more nothing less. It is what it is and I would hope my dearest friends would do the same. I live in Arkansas, around "real people" and not all the Hollywood "whoopla".. We may not have all the $$ of LA, but we do love our fellow neighbors... R.I. P Mic

It seems to me that everyone is taking Michael's funeral as a big party, THATS WRONG! He is just another person and should have a proper funeral, they are doing tickets for the %@!*#? Ok i understand there is alot of people but tickets? They should make the funeral private if thats the case. --I know this has nothing to do with the article but ive been reading them and this just sent me
