Bad news for many eligible (and perhaps overly optimistic) bachelors across the world - Elizabeth Hurley is off the market . The British actress known for her skill in the trade as well as her undisputed good looks announced today that she is engaged to marry Shane Warne. The lucky lad is a renown cricket player who retired at the close of the Indian Premier League's 2011 season. While Warne has spent years honing his skills in cricket, it took just 10 months of dating for him to score the promise to wed Hurley.
Hurley has been in similar positions before; in fact, she finalized her divorce from an Indian businessman in June. Prior to that, Hurley dated Hugh Grant for more than ten years, although the two never went down the aisle. One of the leading stories this time around is Liz's impressive engagement ring; the ring boasts a 9-carat sapphire in the middle, bookended by two 2-carat diamonds. The trio of jaw-dropping stones is set in platinum, suggesting that Warne spared no expense on this setting.
Another major story is the quickness with which Hurley and Warne decided they were meant to be. OF course, that's not completely unique in the world of celebrities. In fact, Hurley and Warne are going to have to work hard if they want to win the race to the altar - several celebrity pairs have barely let the engagement sink in before saying, "I do." How quick will Warne and Hurley have to be? Pretty quick, as they have some stiff competition
Eight Days: In a whirlwind courtship that makes Hurley and Warne looked stodgy, slow and overly traditional, NBA star Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian dated for about month and announced their engagement just eight days prior to the wedding, which took place September 27, 2009. Looks like these two were in a hurry.
One Month: New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and model Gisele Bundchen must have taken a cue from Brady's speeder receivers in determining the length of their engagement, as just one month after the January 2009 engagement, the two were married in February, a month quite significant for Brady - the NFL Super Bowl is held in this month.
Three Months: In a slightly more lengthy engagement, (former? current?) queen of pop Britney Spears announced her engagement to Kevin Federline, one of her backup dancers, just three months prior to getting married. Unfortunately, the quick courtship must have been insufficient to investigate all potential issues, as the two talented individuals split less than three years later.3
