Fans of Eddie Murphy need not worry. He's not dead, but alive and well despite all the rumors spreading around the Internet at the speed of a tweet. Global Associated News, a fake news website, posted the disturbing rumor that the comedian died while snowboarding in Switzerland during a vacation. If you look at the bottom of the website, there's a disclaimer stating that the story is fake and is "a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes." Amusing...not. Murphy is just the latest in a long line of celebs whose death has been reported on the Internet only to be proven just a sick joke.
Owen Wilson
It seems that both comedians "died" in the exact same way, on the same date and in the same place. The rumor of Wilson's death is just the result of replacing his name with Murphy's in a fabricated report. Yet another story posted on Global Associated News claims that Wilson died in a snowboarding accident after crashing into a tree. Have no fear; he'll live another day to make more comedies.
Cher
The singer known for her deep voice is another celeb who was killed off via a horrible Twitter rumor. On January 27, tweets were flying around claiming that the music legend had died. She made light of the situation after hearing about her apparent death saying she might have her songwriter write a song titled "RIP" for her next album. The rumors sent many of her fans into a panic, including Kim Kardashian, who posted a couple of shocked tweets asking if the story was real.
Jon Bon Jovi
In December 2011, fans learned that the "Wanted Dead or Alive" musician was still rocking out despite rumors that he died while touring in New Jersey. He followed up the hoax by posting a picture on his Twitter page of him holding a sign that said "Heaven Looks A Lot Like New Jersey."
What were the craziest celeb death rumors you've heard this past year?
