LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Eddie Murphy is in talks to play Richard Pryor on the big screen, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Although talks are still preliminary, the deal would lead to Murphy starring in the biopic, reportedly titled "Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?," about the groundbreaking comedian who died in December 2005 at the age of 65.

If Murphy joins the cast, it would re-team him with his "Dreamgirls" writer/director Bill Condon, who is also the man behind the Pryor film.

Murphy's role in "Dreamgirls" earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. Condon most recently co-directed and produced the 2009 Oscars.

I think Eddie Murphy would be the right person to play the role of Richard Pryor.Anything Eddie do I'll look at even if it didn't turn out good.

Richard Pryor derseves a better actor than Murphy. How many decades since Murphy was in a movie that wasn't absolutely stupid??

Ilove Eddie Muphy and no one could play that part better than Eddie. I love everything he does. To this day Bowfinger is one of my favorite movies even though no one else in my circle understands it. I hope he gets it!
