Hollywood is mourning the loss of veteran TV actor James Farentino, who passed away Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness, a family spokesman told the Los Angeles Times. He was 73.

Leaving a legacy of nearly 100 TV credits to his name, Farentino was best known for his recurring roles on shows including Dynasty and Blue Thunder.
In 1996, Farentino appeared in a three-episode arc as Ray Ross, the father of George Clooney's character, Dr. Doug Ross. His most recent film appearance was in 2006's Drive/II.
Farentino is survived by his fourth wife, Stella, and two sons, David and Saverio.
