The estate of DJ AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) has filed an unexpected wrongful death suit -- against the charter company responsible for a serious Sept. 2008 crash in which he was involved.

"The crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death," documents read, according to TMZ.

At age 36, Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment Aug. 28 2009; he had overdosed on a toxic combination of prescription drugs and cocaine.

Nearly a year earlier, Goldstein and musician Travis Barker were the sole two survivors out of six in a horrific private plane crash in South Carolina. Prior to this accident, Goldstein had been clean and sober, according to friends. He suffered drug addiction in his early 20s but had kicked the habit for ten years.

This new lawsuit contends that Goldstein, as a direct result of the crash, "was forced" to abuse prescription drugs to deal with painful burns and emotional trauma.

The suit names Clay Lacy Aviation as well as travel service Goodyear Tire, Learjet and the estates of the two pilots who perished in the crash.

The absurdity of this claim reeks with suspicions of pure greed. No one is responsible for their actions anymore, espescially if there is a deep pocket which can be forced into submission by the use of our judicial system. There is no evidence the charter company was negligent or did anything wrong. If there were, why hadn't an action been filed prior to his death?

Oh yes I am so sure that a popular d.j. on the scene would not touch drugs except for in his early twenties!!!!!!!!!! Bull %@!*#!!!!!!!!!! He was doing his show and preaching to people about drugs and then O.D.'s!!!!!!!!!!! What kinda %@!*# is that people are responsible for themselves!!!!!!!!!! What if he was a nobody would the "estate" still try to sue? come on take it

Absolute non sense. Where is the accountability on this man's own life and choices? The family is nuts! when they lose this case I hope they don't go into depression and start poppin pills. AM is missed, but this lawsuit is a joke.

The editor needs to clean this up. It is not possible to have two "sole" survivors. "Sole" means one.

OMG! What on earth has our country come to a grown man who had been an addict and kicked it, was well aware of the outcome of the path he was taking, ends up dead and it is someone elses fault, REALLY? Travis Barker next? He went through the worst of it and he isnt a junkie over it, a lawyer that was worth anything would have advised this family to leave this alone, the deceased families have.
