Sean "Diddy" Combs says he was only being "a friend" when he invited Chris Brown and Rihanna to stay and his Miami home nearly three weeks after the 19-year-old singer allegedly battered his girlfriend, 21.

"I don't cast a judgment on anybody," Diddy said on Tuesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show. "It's a dark time for them, and I'm there for support."

DeGeneres told him she didn't want any girl out there thinking it's OK to go back to a guy who abused her.

"I don't think it's right for anybody to hit anybody," Diddy replied. "We know sometimes relationships get ugly ... we don't know exactly what's going on [with them]."

Added their pal, "We need to pray for them, and we need to do things to support them."

Oprah Winfrey has also reached out to the couple.

She is dedicating her live talk show Thursday to "all the Rihannas of the world."

On her show Friday, she had a message for the couple: " Chris Brown and Rihanna , if I was your friend, I would call you up and I would say, 'Give it some time, get yourself some counseling, take care of yourself. Heal yourself first.'"

She added, "And also, love doesnt hurt. I've been saying this to women for years: 'If a man hits you once, he will hit you again.'"

Brown, who has been charged with two felonies and remains free on $50,000 bail, is to be arraigned April 6.

If convicted, he faces anywhere from probation to four years and eight months in state prison.

Has Hedda Nussbaum, a counselor for battered women, and the abused live-in girlfriend of Joel Steinberg, reached out to Rihanna yet? Hedda and Rihanna have a lot in common and should have a lot to talk about. Maybe Oprah will have Hedda and Rihanna on her show at the same time.

They both need help if they are to stay together. They must get counseling, regroup, accept Christ into their lives & get married. Without help, even if they part ways, the abuse will be carried over to th

I think that is the best thing for them to have as much support as possible. But i'm not judging them or having any say until they come out to the world and speak for themselves.

Chris and Rihana are doing just what they want and everyone else should just butt the hell out and chill. If she wants to give him a second chance so what who are we to judge her. A lot of you sitting out there right now have been cold cocked up side the head and is still with your man but you're not gonna tell anybody and Oprah mind your own business!!!!
