Just when you thought that the two biggest divas in the biz could play nice, someone makes a move. No, we're not talking about the reports that Britney Spears demanded to receive a bigger check than Jennifer Lopez for "The X-Factor." The Madge vs. Gaga on-again, off-again squabble is apparently on.
Madonna has had quite a year. Her album "MDNA" hit the scene with a steamy video for "Girl Gone Wild." She regaled the Superbowl audience with a blockbuster halftime show that included Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., LMFAO and Cee Lo Green. She even joined twitter for one day to chat with her fans about the minutiae of her life.
So what's next for the lady who's been famous since the 80s?
Lola's mom figured that this was as good a time as any to get in another dig on Lady Gaga. Madge and Gaga have had an interesting tug-of-war of a relationship. The "Like A Virgin" singer has teetered between seeming flattered and feeling insulted by her young doppelganger. The dynamic duo even paired up for a hilarious "Saturday Night Live" skit that spoofed their dramatic, so-called feud.
Lady G's multi-platinum anthem "Born This Way," however, seems to really stick in Madge's craw. The song is known for its self-appreciative lyrics combined with similar song stylings to Madonna's feel-good anthem "Express Yourself." Ms. Ciccone famously said that Gaga's song "felt reductive." In case that's not specific enough for you, Madonna explained, "I thought, 'What a wonderful way to redo my song'. I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting."
M's Israeli fans were treated to a special performance this weekend. Madonna sang "Express Yourself" and then seamlessly transitioned into "Born This Way." She then launched into her song "She's Not Me." If this isn't a burn then we don't know what is.
So what do you think? Is the Madge vs. Gaga feud back on?
Was Madonna offering a tribute or a dig?
Who do you think wins? Are you for the original dance-shock queen who practically invented the genre? Is Gaga just a talented Johnny-come-lately? Or can we appreciate both talented divas for who they are?
Are you Team Madonna or Team Gaga?
