The book series, which began in 1983 and includes over 150 volumes, chronicles the ups and downs of Jessica, an outgoing cheerleader, and her more bookish, level-headed sister, Elizabeth.
Diablo, who won an Oscar for her work on "Juno" but saw her latest film, the Megan Fox-starring "Jennifer's Body" disappoint at the box office, is also reportedly attached as a producer to "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament" for Fox Searchlight.
