NEW YORK, New York -- Duchovny's Lawyer: Tennis Coach Named In Adultery Story Denies Affair

An attorney for actor David Duchovny has released a statement denouncing reports the "Californication" star was involved in an affair with a tennis instructor.

Following a report in Britain's The Daily Mail, which claimed Duchovny had an affair with a woman named Edit Pakay, attorney Stanton "Larry" Stein issued a statement refuting the alleged romantic relationship, claiming that "the article contains false and defamatory information."

"I met with Edit Pakay on Friday, October 17, 2008, at which time she confirmed that she considered David Duchovny a friend. She told me that they never had a romantic or sexual relationship," Stein said in the statement released to Access Hollywood.

Stein claims that upon seeing the story in The Daily Mail written by Caroline Graham on October 19, Pakay wrote a "completely unsolicited" e-mail to Stein saying she wanted to "go on record" that she never had a sexual relationship with Duchovny.

Pakay called Graham's article "lie and deceit."

However, when contacted by Access Hollywood on Tuesday, Graham stood by her story.

On Monday, Stein said he once again met with Pakay in response to the article, and had her sign "a declaration under penalty or perjury."

"David Duchovny and I are friends. We have never had, and do not have, a romantic or sexual relationship. I do not have romantic feelings toward him and, based on our interactions, I believe that David Duchovny does not have romantic feelings toward me," Pakay said in her declaration, according to Stein. "The last time that I met up with David Duchovny was almost a year ago, in November 2007, when we made plans to play tennis. His personal trainer was also with us. Since November 2007, I have not seen David Duchovny, other than running into him briefly at the gym in March 2008 where he was working out."

The New York Daily News' Rush & Molloy reported that the actor now plans to sue The Daily Mail for the article.

Last week, Duchovny and Tea Leoni announced they had separated after 11 years of marriage. The news came on the heels of Duchovny's release from rehab, where he was being treated for sex addiction.

Upon leaving rehab, Stein told Access his client had "successfully" completed the program.
