LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- David Duchovny said he is doing well following the tabloid reports that have plagued the "Californication" star and his family since the actor admitted to undergoing counseling for sex addiction in the summer of 2008.

"Last year was a difficult year," David told Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson on the Golden Globes red carpet. "And I can say that I personally, have never felt better. And I think the better I am, the better my family can be."

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the Showtime star entered rehab for sex addiction in August of last year. Two months later, a report surfaced that he and wife Tea Leoni were divorcing.

But last night, David referenced Tea on stage as he helped present at the show. He told the audience that his wife had sent him a text message with words of encouragement over his Best Actor, Drama, nomination, for his role in "Californication," from his son.

And just a short time before, David told Shaun on the red carpet, that his family is "strong."

"Our family is great and you know, there's a lot of stuff that's personal and... we're grateful for the support," he said. "We're a strong family and there's a lot of love in our family and we're just really grateful for everybody's concern."

And, in addition to his family life, David said personally, things are on the up.

"My life has changed, in many ways, for the better," he said.

But everything hasn't been easy for the star.

When Shaun suggested David didn't look like someone who had been through the wringer, the actor replied, "looks can be deceiving."

    I love David Douchovny. Californiacation is such a great show. I love it!! Plus during the 2nd season his sex addiction isn't such a problem, He is understanding how important family is.

    Sex addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to handle on a daily basis and successfully long term, especially in the Hollywood environment. Best that Tea split w/the kids and get on w/her life.
