Daniel Tosh has apologized for making a rape joke during a Los Angeles stand-up show on Friday.

"All the out-of-context misquotes aside, I'd like to sincerely apologize," Tosh tweeted. "The point I was making before I was heckled is there are awful things in the world, but you can still make jokes about them. #deadbabies."

An anonymous female audience member recounted the event in a Tumblr post. "[Tosh made] some very generalizing, declarative statements about rape jokes always being funny," she wrote.

The woman then yelled out to the comedian, "Actually, rape jokes are never funny."

According to the woman, Tosh paused for a moment and then said, 'Wouldn't it be funny if that girl got raped by, like, five guys right now? Like, right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her?"

The woman and her friend immediately got up and left The Laugh Factory show, explaining, "It was humiliating, of course, especially as the audience guffawed in response to Tosh, their eyes following us as we made our way out of there. I didn't hear the rest of what he said about me."

The anonymous woman has at least one celebrity supporter. Actress Martha Plimpton responded to Tosh's apology, "I can't wait to hear your 'lynching is funny!' bit. Or would that be a little TOO dangerous?"

Did Tosh go too far? Or is joking about terrible things a way to cope with them?
