LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Maybe Jeff Ross saw it coming. Then again, after the injury to his eye prior to Monday night's show, maybe not.

But either way, the comedian was sent packing as the first contestant eliminated from the new season of "Dancing With the Stars" on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, beauty Brooke Burke triumphed once again in the second night of the competition.

The sexy mother of four, and her partner, professional Derek Hough, strode to the top of the leader board with a challenging quickstep that scored them 26 out of 30 and left the judges in awe.

"Last night was great," judge Carrie Ann Inaba commented. "Tonight was fantastic."

Singer Toni Braxton also made another strong push for the top, tying for second with "DWTS'" youngest competitor, 18-year-old "Hannah Montana" star Cody Linley. Both celebs scored 23 out of 30 with their respective partners, Alec Mazo and Julianne Hough.

"You had a lightness of foot," judge Len Goodman raved of Toni's dance. "There was a beautiful movement across the floor."

Former NFL superstar Warren Sapp also took high marks for his quick step with partner, Aussie Kym Johnson.

"A ton of fun," judge Bruno Tonioli enthused. "A guy of your size producing that performance? Your feet were going around like a roadrunner."

"Emmitt Smith back in the house," Warren replied, referencing another former NFL star, who took the "Dancing" trophy several seasons ago.

Susan Lucci, with her partner, Tony Dovolani, also netted a 22, with a quickstep that allowed Len to brag.

"I'm feeling a little bit smug because last night I said ballroom was going to be your forte and is has," he said.

A host of the contenders tied for the next spot including Lance Bass, Misty May-Treanor, Maurice Greene and Rocco DiSpirito.

Cloris Leachman however, won the public's vote on Monday, but not the judges' Tuesday evening critiques. Her mambo with Corky Ballas netted just 16 points.

But then there was Ross, who had his cornea scratched on Monday night by his partner, Edyta Sliwinska, who was sent home.

"They told me Edyta was going to be easy on the eyes," he joked. "I figured for sure it'd be her husband who poked me in the eye."

Before leaving the dance floor, Ross did have some parting words championing his partner, who last season nearly won the mirror ball with Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor.

"I want everyone to know that if I can do it, you can do it," he said. "My one regret is that I don't get dance with Edyta anymore. She is a champion in waiting. She came in second last season so I feel bad for her. She is a first class, world class human being."

I wish Cloris Leachman would either dance or get off! What? Is that old rip on something or what? She has a chance to be elegant and sophisticated by chooses to pass on that! If she thought she was to old to be on the show she shouldn't have came on.

Cloris L. should give it up. I don't see how see made it thru the first cut offs. It's a dancing competition not a popularity contest.

Here we go again. Every year we keep seeing the worst dancer make it through the elimination show. Love Cloris, but she should of been axed last night.
