Guilty as charged!
Monday night on "Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars," viewers got half the story as the all-star celebs danced to cheesy songs, did a cheerful team dance, and watched in awe as one of their own went down!
No, we're not talking about Melissa Rycroft's weekend fall, which landed her in the hospital. (The former "Bachelor" star is on the mend, and docs cleared her to dance on Monday night.) Instead, it was judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who was so excited after Gilles Marini's rumba that she fell out of her chair -- literally!
Monday night's abbreviated show (the Presidential debate awaited) had four couples giving us their guilty pleasures, with the remaining four couples gearing up for a team dance. Tuesday night will be more of the same.
So who was the guiltiest one of all?
Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy -- Samba (Song: "Want U Back" by Cher Lloyd)
After last week's smoldering Coldplay contemporary, Kelly and Val went raunchier this week with a samba that has us convinced more than ever that something more has got to be going on behind closed doors! Judge Len Goodman thought there was "too much gyrating," but what does he know? Score: 24.5 out of 30
Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd -- Rumba (Song: "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston)
This duo dared to dance a capella -- and the risky move paid off. "Let the baby-making begin!' Carrie Ann Inaba squealed after this scorching rumba, before falling out of her chair and onto the floor. Meanwhile, host Tom Bergeron continues to show exactly why he earned every ounce of that Emmy. He told Inaba, "When you said 'Let the baby-making begin,' I didn't think you'd get into position!" Score: 29.5
Kirstie Alley pulled off her best dance yet with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, with a take on the Simon and Garfunkel's classic from "The Graduate." But will Kirstie graduate on to next week's show? Quite possibly, because even Len Liked it! "It was your best dance," he told the actress. "You were dancing to the Maksim-um!" Score: 25.5
Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke -- Samba (Song: "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow)
Nothing like a Manilow song and an orange jumpsuit! Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke's trip to the "Copacabana" earned the couple a 10 from Bruno Tonioli and a pair of 9.5s! Len called it "an unstoppable performance."
Team Dance -- Freestyle (Song: "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen)
Take four couples (in this case Sabrina Bryan and partner Louis Van Amstel, Shawn Johnson and partner Derek Hough, Apolo Ohno and partner Karina Smirnoff, and Melissa Rycroft and partner Tony Dovolani), put them in sequined cheer gear, and cue up this year's most overplayed radio song, and what have you got? A team dance worth cheering about! This peppy freestyle pulled out every trick and lift in the book, and it garnered the team a near-perfect score. Go team! Score: 29.5
Part two of this week's "Dancing With the Stars" competition airs Tuesday night at 8/7c on ABC.
