Season 14 of "Dancing with the Stars" kicked off Monday night with a cast that includes Gladys Knight, Martina Navratilova, "The View"'s Sherri Shepherd , NFL's Donald Driver, Gavin DeGraw, soap's star Jack Wagner, soprano Katherine Jenkins, "Extra"'s Maria Menounos, Melissa Gilbert, Disney's Roshon Fegan and William Levy. However, there's one addition who's proving to be quite the DWTS fan favorite, and that's 34-year-old Jaleel White, famous for his enormously popular character Steve Urkel of "Family Matters." Will the mirror ball trophy land in his hands?
His Urkel moves may help to get him there
Is it possible for the 34-year-old to throw in a few of those Urkel moves? Fans want it, but Jaleel is no longer the skinny nerd with high-water pants, suspenders and thick glasses. He's a muscular hottie who, in addition to his stint on "DWTS," will be hosting a new game show called "Total Blackout" on Syfy where contestants compete in the dark. Says White, "I've done a lot of things in the last 20 months that are completely outside the box of what my television past has been."
But despite all that, the "Family Matters" star is willing to give the fans a little taste of his most famous days. "If ['Family Matters' fans] can keep me on the show long enough, I think we'll have some fun stuff for them that will invoke some nostalgia, but at the same time keep it classic to where I'm at in my life now," says White.
Even if there are no nerdy moves, the fan favorite has got rhythm
According to professional "DWTS" dancer Kym Johnson, who's partnering with White this season after teaming with David Arquette last season, the former "Family Matters" star has got all the right moves. "He's got natural moves and he's got rhythm, which is the most important thing," says Johnson. "So, he's making my job very easy."
Despite his natural dancing ability, White's got both humor and humility going for him
Even though Jaleel is rumored to have the moves, the star's got personality going for him too, as revealed in this video with Johnson, the day after they met. Says Jaleel, "I'm humbled and honored to be a part of this cast. This season in particular I'm really humbled to be a part of this cast."
