Jon Stewart, the comedian who hosts Comedy Central's flagship show, is celebrating a major personal milestone. The man who took over hosting duties of "The Daily Show" back in 1999 is celebrating his 50th birthday today. Funnily enough, the man who originally hosted the show, Craig Kilborn, blew out fifty candles on his own birthday cake back in August as did former "Daily Show" correspondent and star of NBC's huge hit sitcom "The Office," Steve Carell.
Stewart's run on the news commentary show has been nothing short of phenomenal. Over the course of his stewardship, "The Daily Show" has racked up an astounding nineteen Primetime Emmy awards. For a comparison, "M*A*S*H*" is maybe the most critically acclaimed and beloved shows of all time, and in its eleven year run it won fourteen Emmy Awards, five short of the mark set by Stewart and his team of writers and comedian correspondents. The show also helped launch the careers of Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Ed Helms.
It's widely considered one of the most witty and insightful shows on television, mocking not just the news makers, but those who report the news as well. During his tenure as host, Jon has interviewed both celebrities and major politicians, including President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Over the course of his hosting duties, Jon has managed to guide the show into a permanent place in pop culture, even picking up credibility as an actual political pundit as well.
But Stewart isn't the only star to start a fifth decade of living this month. On November 11, Demi Moore turned 50. Tomorrow, her co-star in the classic 1985 film that helped coin the Brat Pack moniker, "St. Elmo's Fire," Andrew McCarthy, will celebrate his big fiftieth birthday as well. The class of 1962 was actually quite well represented in that film. Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and Jenny Wright all starred in the flick, and all of them have turned 50 this year, as well.
One of Hollywood's most beloved actresses, Jodie Foster, celebrated her 50th birthday back on November 19. Jodie is set to star with Matt Damon in a futuristic action film entitled "Elysium," which is slated for a release next August. Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis turned 50 years old on November 1, just a couple weeks after his longtime band mate and friend Flea turned the same age in October.
