Alexander Rodriguez's wife Cynthia says her split from the Yankees slugger has been a major blow to her family.
"My parents, aunts, uncles are devastated," Cynthia, 34, told the
New York Post in her first interview since filing for divorce, adding that no one in her "close-knit family" has ever divorced.
She did not discuss
Madonna or the
infidelity accusations she made against A-Rod, 32.

Instead, under the advisement of her lawyers, she dismissed reports that she
spent $100,000 of A-Rod's money to punish him for his relationship with Madonna.
"Not one word of those stories is true," Cynthia said. "I did not spend one dollar shopping in Paris. I did not go to super-fancy expensive restaurants. I did not go to any spa. I didn't do one thing."
After Us Weekly broke the news of A-Rod's
late-night visits to
Madonna's home, Cynthia said, "I needed to think. To clear my head."

She said A-Rod "encouraged" her to go to Paris, where she stayed with pal
Lenny Kravitz. (She added that she never took a trip without A-Rod during their 13-year relationship.)
"I spent the most innocent four days with my children's godparents, who are as close to us as family," Cynthia said.
"I needed to get away. With clear-headed friends. To breathe. To think how I'm going to handle my kids," she said. "I just needed a little time."
