For celebrities, fans are one of the perks - and part of the price - of being famous. Though most celebs claim to love their fans and thank followers for their support, hardcore groupies occasionally take their worship just a bit too far. Here's a look at some stars who have experienced some close encounters of the fan kind.
While touring in South America, singer Demi Lovato had to be rushed away from crowds not once, but twice! Throngs of people gathered at the airport for the "Skyscraper" singer's arrival, and the mass of people quickly became unruly when they caught sight of the 19-year-old getting off her plane. Though half a dozen security guards tried to shield the shocked musician, her adoring fans grabbed for her and chased her car down the street once she was finally whisked away to safety. Earlier in the week, fans climbed on the stage during her concert in Paraguay, forcing Demi to exit the stage while security calmed the crowds and cleared the area.
While in Brazil promoting "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I," Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were nearly mobbed by a group of female fans. Lautner recounted the incident, saying "Kristen and I were doing interviews in a room, and all of a sudden our security barges in, closes the door, and locks it." When the two stars asked what was going on, security told them that 2,000 girls had "just broken through the hotel lobby," had gotten past security, and were on their way to the room. Though the two were "pretty scared at first," the 20-year-old heartthrob said "the National Guard did arrive and we were able to get the girls out." That's what you get for being a hottie, Taylor.
"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens once encountered some overly-affectionate female fans while taping a TV show. Stopping to sign autographs, Hudgens said, "It was these two girls in their mid-20s with, like, tattoos and stuff. So they give me a hug and suddenly I feel someone kissing my neck, and this girl was making out with me, my neck!" The 23-year-old immediately split, but claims that the kiss-and-run was her "craziest fan story" ever.
Pop princess Britney Spears once had her leg bitten by a fan while performing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To be fair, the oh-so-lucky young man was invited on stage for Brit's "Lace & Leather" number, which involved Spears wrapping her legs around the guy's shoulders while holding on to a pole. The overzealous man was apparently handcuffed, so he didn't grab the singer, but he did turn his head and appear to bite her right calf, which was draped over his shoulder. Though she looked shocked, the 30-year-old merely disengaged herself and continued her performance without touching the man again. Good move.
"Harry Potter" star Tom Felton, better known as Draco Malfoy, woefully underestimated his fans' enthusiasm. While appearing at a store opening, the actor thought he'd roll down his window and say hello to a group of admirers who had gathered to see him. The 21-year-old star recalls, "We put the window down; this woman reached right in and grabbed my hair. [We yelled] Pull the window up! Pull the window up!" We wonder who's scarier - the fans or Voldemort?
While performing her hit song "The Climb" at a concert in Melbourne, Australia, singer Miley Cyrus was grabbed by a fan who jumped on stage. Shocked and clearly rattled, the singer screamed "Oh my God, oh my God," while security pushed the audience member off stage and pulled the then 18-year-old to safety. Though Cyrus did continue the show, she spent the rest of the night away from the edge of the stage and closer to her security guards.
Remember, celeb watchers, the fact that they're in the public eye doesn't mean they're public property! Let's keep our hands to ourselves!
