LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- No doubt about it, 2008 was a big year for celebrity divorces - Madonna, Hulk Hogan, Alex Rodriguez, Bill Murray, Paul McCartney, Robin Williams, Star Jones, and Kate Walsh were just some of the stars that were engaged in divorce proceedings over the last 12 months. But though she admits marriage can be tough, Courteney Cox has no plans to give up on her relationship with husband David Arquette.

"I get shocked by people getting divorced all the time, that's why I choose to work on it. Therapy helps us,' Courteney told Britain's Daily Mail. "It's so easy to grow apart; marriage takes work. I suppose you can work it out by talking to each other - I would just prefer to have a referee, it reminds us why we're together."

The actress, who stars in the Christmas-due "Bedtime Stories," opposite Adam Sandler, married David in 1999. Almost 10 years into their marriage, Courteney said she won't follow the same route taken by her parents, who split when she was a child.

"Before my dad died, he said one of his big regrets was that he hadn't worked on their marriage enough," she told the paper. "I don't know what the future's going to hold, but divorce isn't really an option."

One of the ways the couple, who has a 4-year-old daughter, Coco, keeps their family together is through Sunday get togethers at their home.

Friends -- including Coco's godmother, and Courteneys' former "Friends" co-star, Jennifer Aniston -- regularly come over.

"David does the barbecuing, and we have a fantastic chef, Patrice, who makes great salads, vegetables and fish. Sunday is my favorite time because it's really about friends," she said. "And, yes...Jen's there just about every Sunday."

Though "Friends" ended in 2004, Courteney said her relationship with Jennifer has remained strong due to the things they've gone through together.

"We've known each other nearly 15 years now, we grew up together emotionally," Courteney said. "I lost my father, Jen got divorced, and I had a baby. We've been through huge life changes together. I can be myself around her.

"'We never judge each other," Courteney continued. "We support each other, but we're honest with each other too. I feel lucky to have her."

She's right. When one or both stops working for it, it falls apart. Too few people understand or expect that. Today it's gotten too easy and acceptable to just end things or 'move on', a snowball effect.

Great, they're "in therapy'. Sad to say.. every time it comes up like this, a celeb is "in therapy" or "just taking a break", or simply just denying rumors of a problem, they're always in divorce court soon afterwards. :-(

  • I wonder if divorce will be an option when Courteney finds out David has been banging Jen on the side?
