A 'Chronicle' Sequel?!?

This weekend, the world learned what Friday Night Lights fans have known since 2009: Michel B. Jordan is a star!

And thanks to the one-two punch of Red Tails and Chronicle, he now has two movies in the box office Top 10. And with Chronicle -- which is for all intents and purposes the best comic book movie in years -- snagging the top spot with $22 million, fans are clamoring for more! So I asked the man at the center of this hit if Chronicle 2 is even a possibility given the events of the original.

Insider.com: Congrats on the big opening Michael -- what was your reaction to the news?
Michael B. Jordan: It's been a good day with this and the Giants winning the Super Bowl! Sometimes when you feel like you've done something special, worked so hard and put your heart and soul into a project, but everyone doesn't always feel the same way. Once I found out the audience and fans really enjoyed the movie, it meant the world to me. I was speechless.

Insider: I also feel like the promotion was also fantastic because it revealed so little in a day when trailers give everything away.
Michael: I agree. It forced people to talk about it, especially when they leaked the trailer on YouTube – people slowly started to talk about it, which made it spread like wildfire on the internet. It shows that the film industry and marketing has to change to keep up with the times with everybody chronicling their lives – whether it's Twitter or Facebook or YouTube – there are new ways to reach the masses.

Insider: Were you surprised that critics have looked at Chronicle through a racial lens, saying that it feeds into stereotypes because your character dies?
Michael: I know [screenwriters] Josh [Trank] and Max [Landis] have been getting a lot of flack about it being racist, but truth be told, my character was originally named Steve Kazinski in the script. He was Jewish – so regardless of race, Steve was gonna go. It just so happens that I took over the role, we changed the name and the black guy died [laughs].

Insider: Did any part of you try to get them to alter that fact so you could, at least, be part of that epic final battle?
Michael: Oh definitely! [laughs] When I was reading the script, I was always being the one conspiring -- trying to think of new ways to stay alive. But at the end of the day, certain characters are tools throughout the film – they're used to push other characters forward.

Insider: I heard some tale of a sequel -- any truth to that?
Michael: I think it's possible. There were a lot of questions left unanswered in the movie. We never learned the extent of our powers, where they came from or why we all had that connection. It'll be interesting to see if the studio wants to make a sequel.

Insider: Audiences didn't know what gave your characters that power, but did the actors?
Michael: No. Since our characters didn't know, they didn't want us to know – we just know it was an organic substance that gave us these powers. We don't know much more than that, and since Steve's life was cut too short, he didn't really get to find out. I think it's cool that we leave it up to the audience – it's whatever your imagination can come up with.

Insider: Well hopefully we'll see you in the Friday Night Lights movie as well -- any idea if Vince is a part of that?
Michael: I ran into Pete [Berg, director] on the NBC lot and he told me they were doing a movie. It's not just rumors. Jason Katims is supposedly writing the script. I'm not 100 percent sure who is being brought back, but I would hope after the last two seasons they'd want to put Vince in the film. I'd love to get another crack at him, it would be cool to step back into his shoes for a while.
