LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Christina Applegate's "Samantha Who?" won't be returning to ABC next season.

According to Variety, ABC has cancelled Christina's comedy due to economic reasons. The network was reportedly looking to cut $500,000 per episode and had considered switching from a single camera format to using multiple cameras, a source close to the show said.

The source went on to say that ABC's 10 new series, coupled with the show's slip in the ratings since switching from Monday night to Thursdays, contributed to the show's demise.

Christina, who was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy in 2008 for the sitcom, told Access Hollywood she was thrilled to be nominated and attend the ceremony after battling cancer.

"One thing my mother always used to say when she was going through cancer, was she said cancer is a word, not a sentence, and being here and being in a dress and feeling good, it's such a victory," Christina told Access at the 2008 Emmy Awards. "You can get past this thing and all of those things that defines you as a woman. There's so many other things that define you as a woman, so you know, I'm alive and I feel fantastic."

In early August 2008, Christina's rep revealed she had been diagnosed and was being treated for breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and in mid-August declared she was 100 percent cancer-free.

I agree with alot of the others, there are other shows they can axe to keep Samantha Who? on, cut others salaries, the big bucks going to some of these newscasters can be downsized too, come on folks everyone is in this together, stop laying off the folks with the weekt o week checks and hit the big money makers, CBS, look how much THE VIEW's henhouse gets paid, and hit the other shows.

  • I can't say I'm disappointed. I never understood how the show got this far. The writing was not clever and neither was the acting. It's great that Christina has survived hercancer battle but I think she had definitely been given an advantage because people feel sorry for her.

I absolutely love this show! I can't believe they are cancelling it! There is so much crap on TV and this show is great! Christina is great, Jean Smart is great, the supporting cast is great! This is really too bad! They need to reconsider this decision big time.

CANCELLED?!?!?!?!? NOOOOOO!!!!!!! That show is one of the very few left on TV worth watching. Great acting, great writing. They always screw with the good shows, move them around, then axe them. Christina Applegate and the whole cast were perfect in their roles. I SAY BRING SAMANTHA WHO? BACK!!!!!!!! If the network wants to cut costs, axe The View instead!!!!

Why do I care about a TV show when I worry about getting a job when people get laid off or when at the Cannes festival they cut down on the festivities? How about he Vanity Fair and In Style parties are cutting way down and in some cases not even hosting parties.Maybe instead of being so delusional think of your own future, the economy and others before you think of a TV show's return to TV.
