Actor Chris Klein is coming clean about getting clean. The "American Pie" star opened up for the first time about his long battle with alcoholism. "I would have died, and I think about that every single day," revealed the actor in an interview. "It got to the point where I was a fragile shadow of the young man that came into this business." After a strong start to his career with "Election" and the first two "American Pie" movies, the 33-year-old actor was arrested twice for drunk driving. Now that he is clean and sober, he jumped at the chance to reprise his most famous role as Oz in the upcoming film "American Reunion." Klein is just the latest example of a young actor that overcame issues with alcohol. Here are a few others that faced a similar battle.
If you need proof that Harry Potter is all grown up, look no further than the actor's admission to alcoholism. He confessed to indulging in booze as a teenage while working on the popular franchise about a boy wizard. Realizing he had a serious problem, the star kicked the drinking habit in 2010. "As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me," says the actor of his recovery. The currently sober 22-year-old recently starred in "The Woman In Black" and seems ready for the next phase of his movie career.
The "Charlie's Angels" actress had a well-documented battle with alcohol and other drugs that started before she was a teenager. It seemed like the pressures of child stardom would doom her before she ever became an adult. However, she managed to put her rebellious lifestyle behind her and become a great actress and producer. While she doesn't pretend to be completely free of booze, Drew has found a comfort zone when it comes to indulging. "I've tried to find the balance," said the star when asked about her sobriety.
The "American Beauty" actor has a lot in common with Klein. Both struggled with their fame after breaking out with huge hits in the late 1990s and both turned to booze. Bentley's problems with alcohol and recreational drugs nearly ruined his personal and professional life but the star has since climbed out of the depths. "I'm now at two and a half years sober," says the proud actor and father. His comeback is going well and he can currently be seen in the mega-hit movie "The Hunger Games."Note: This was written by a Yahoo! contributor. Join the Yahoo!
