Neither Chelsea Handler nor her Joan Rivers is known for sweetness. However, one might assume that as a fellow comic Chelsea might have a little reverence for the hard-working Joan who paved the way for the likes of Kathy Griffith, Amy Poehler, Wanda Sykes and Handler herself. One would be wrong in this case. Handler appeared this week on "The Howard Stern" show and took the appearance as her latest opportunity to blast J. Rivers. Chelsea even managed to get a jab in about Joan's daughter, actress Melissa Rivers.
Chelsea told Stern on Sirius XM that she ran into Joan and Melissa at E! where they both host popular shows. She says that Joan said "hi" but she "doesn't think about either" Joan or Melissa so she didn't reply. Chelsea explained to Howard that she did not appreciate Joan's shtick at a Comcast event where the veteran funny woman quipped that Chelsea had Conan's old stage while she couldn't even get a dressing room. Apparently Ms. Handler can dish it but she can't take it because the feud was on from there.
Chelsea must have forgotten that Joan is one tough broad who does not go down without a fight. Plastic surgery snipes aside, Ms. Rivers has paid her dues and then some. She could be seen as a role model for anyone who even aspires to become a self made woman.
Joan didn't mince words today on what she thinks of Chelsea's offensive comments. Referring to CH's past relationship with E! network head Ted Harbert Joan said, "She's an ordinary girl that was f*ing somebody high up in the industry and they gave her a break and she's doing okay." The 78-year-old diva drove her point home when she emphasized, "The girl made it on her back f*ing the president, we all know that, of the network. Number two, she's fine, she's ordinary. She's not a genius." Joan didn't stop there. She called Chels a "wh*re" and an alcoholic stating, "She's a drunk. I don't wish her good luck, I don't wish her bad luck, Ouch.
Let's see how the two measure up. Sure Chels hosts "Chelsea Lately" but back in the days Joan had her own late night talk show, too. Chelsea has written a number of bestselling memoirs: "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands," "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea," and "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang." Joan also has a number of titles under her belt such as, "Men Are Stupid . . . And They Like Big Boobs: A Woman's Guide to Beauty Through Plastic Surgery," "Bouncing Back: I've Survived Everything ... and I Mean Everything ... and You Can Too!," and "Don't Count the Candles: Just Keep the Fire Lit!" It seems like an even fight as far as celebrity feuds go.
We hope that these two make up soon. Joan, the host of "Fashion Police" is a national treasure. We'll see how this brawl unfolds but for now we're Joan Rangers.
Handler wasted no insult time in her Stern appearance. The producer and host also had choice words about her ex boyfriend 50 Cent and Mariah Carey.
What do you think? Are you Team Joan or Team Chelsea?
