Celine Dion: "Drugs" and "Show Business" Killed Whitney Houston

Celine Dion: "Drugs" and "Show Business" Killed Whitney Houston

The cause of Whitney Houston's death remains under investigation -- but according to Celine Dion, this case is already closed.

Speaking via phone on Monday's Good Morning America (she called the late icon "an amazing inspiration") the "My Heart Will Go On" singer didn't mince words looking back on Houston's legendary career and troubled later life.

    PHOTOS: Whitney's life remembered

"It's just really unfortunate that drugs, bad people, bad influences took over her dreams, her motherhood," the French-Canadian star, 43, said of Houston, who famously fessed up in a 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer about using cocaine, marijuana and pills. "When you think about Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson . . . To get into drugs like that for whatever reason--because of stress, bad influence, whatever."

Dion lamented that her immensely talented idol, who left behind daughter Bobbi Kristina, apparently succumbed like other superstars before her. "What happens when you have everything? Love, support, motherhood…Something happens that I don't understand. That's why I'm scared of show business, of drugs and hanging out. That's why I don't go to parties!"

This whole thing reminds me of "Wine and Roses" the husband gets clean (supposedly) and the wife is too weak after he's the one that started her on this road. God rest her soul, she was one of the Best singers in the world and that's what she should be remembered for.

Celine is so right. Stay away from drugs and bad influences. Stay close to families, good friends, and quiet life.

Not really sure how to respond to that. Part of me wants to say "way to make it about you, Celine." But another part of me wishes that Whitney had taken Celine's route and lived a slower paced lifestyle. She might still be here today.

She was on a morning show and was asked about it!

Celine is so right! At least with her, she is always grounded with her family surrounding her.

You could have said the same thing about Houston 10 years ago or more. So...?
      • IT'S MY OPINION 3 months ago
not really Nemesis, 10 years ago Whitney was righ smack in the middle of her drug use...and two totally different lives and lifestyles.

Celine Dion never lived in Whitney Houston's life. Celine Dion doesn't have any damn clue how to be Whitney Houston.

She didn't live in her life because she made the right choices. She didn't turn to drugs and alcohol nor a wife beating husband. Whitney didn't have a clue on how to be Whitney!

I agree with that because it is so very true....sad. Making bad choices..

These stars who die from drogs taking control need to have their stories teach the young people what drugs can do to them. You can talk all you want but when you put a face with the danger it hits home. Hope people hear you. Your honesty is one of your most beautiful assets.

Whitney's number one quote from the Bible: He who is without sin, cast the first rock. And I shall smoketh it.

She hit it on the nail. That's exactly why most stars can't kick addiction. You can't stop if you're surrounded by people doing it. You must change your life 100%, and celebs can't always do that. They can't just shrink into their homes and ignore everyone, like normal people can. It's 2x as hard to kick addiction when you're a celebrity. So give them a break! Don't judge people until you've walked in their shoes.

the comment was not demeaning. It's the truth afterall. Still, very sad...

Celine Dion is lucky to have a good husband. Whitney had a devil, who ruined her life.

I have to agree with some of the other posts. Celine Dion should have just left the drugs out of the conversation with Robin Roberts. That is not what the conversation was suppose to be about. It was to talk about the influence Whitney had on Celine's career. Instead, all she could talk about is what could have been and how drugs ruined her life. Whitney is gone and she will leave a legacy behind and we will miss her and her beautiful voice. RIP Whitney. Celine, the next time someone ask you to reflect back on how someone influenced you, try to focus on the good things and not the bad. Robin hit it on the head, you are always open. In other words, you talk too much.

Celine states she is scared of show business. What business are you in Celine? She says she is afraid of drugs and hanging out. Who says you have to to do drugs if you hang out or go to a party? What a dumb statement. Shut up Celine

I am a big fan of Celine Dion but I think her comments were un-justified. No one knows how she died., it is tragic and a huge loss for everyone especially her family. I think out of respect for Whitney people should keep their comments to themselves until cause of death has been released....I think she deserves that.

When did Celine become a medical examiner?

I'm canadian but I wish Celine Dion would just shut her pie hole! Whatever will be will be. I feel bad we've lost an icon that could sing and had one of the best voices in a life time.....not like that thing who makes comments and looks like she is having a seizure when she sings.....ribbit ribbit!

Celine knows the business, Whitney had a beautiful voice and lots of people made money off her, I wonder about the managers who pump up the pressure to get them going and selling. Somewhere in there the list of people that Celine rhymed off all wound up being destroyed by fame. Drugs don't make the Paparazzi disappear they just make you care less about them being in your face.

so when did SHE perform the autopsy? Did she get the tox-screen already? Or is this overhyped cow just milking the death for attention?
