The 2012 Golden Globe Awards was a night of redemption for funny man Ricky Gervais, as he had a much more receptive audience than last year. And during his exchange with Madonna, he also showed that he could take a little friendly ribbing himself.

When getting ready for the festivities, Ricky Gervais tweeted, "Hollywood is all about image, so I've hired the best stylist in the business, to really "wow" at the Golden Globes." (He then posted a picture that suggested the opposite).
Julianne Hough was getting a head start on the event. She tweeted, "So much fun!! Love you guys! RT @tricky44: Fun with @lilycollins and @juliannehough pre golden globe madness begins."
Adam Levine was excited about his first time attending. He tweeted, "About to attend the Golden Globes for the first time. I'm nominated for best actor EVER. My date will be @jamesbvalentine. The guitar player with mystique."
Not only was Joan Rivers looking forward to the Golden Globes, but she was also excited about the 49ers victory. She tweeted, "Leaving San Francisco and heading back to LA. Exhausted from the 49ers victory but excited to see all the fashion at the Globes tonight."
Jenna Ushkowitz had a wonderful night all around. She tweeted, "What an evening surrounded by such amazing people... Now an early mornig at McKinley High.. Love is in the air!"
Amber Riley had lots of compliments for her "Glee" co-stars. She tweeted, "My glee ladies are looking hott! And my glee men all look so handsome :)"
Lea Michele tweeted throughout the night. She also took time to thank her designer. "Such an amazing night! Thank you to Marchesa for designing this gorgeous dress for me for tonight!!!"
(She also received a compliment from Kim Kardashian who said she was "major tonight in Marchesa.")
"Glee" co-star Kevin McHale also tweeted throughout the evening, posting pictures of his hair, and talking about the new friends he made. "Best. Night. Ever. Can't even begin. Congrats to the amazing Modern Fam team! Loved seeing old friends & making new ones. #Starstruck #bigkidstable"
Speaking of "Modern Family," Eric Stonestreet posted candid photos throughout the event before ending the night at the kitchen of the Beverly Hills Hilton. "Where do you go after you win a golden globe? The kitchen of the Beverly Hills Hilton."
Jesse Tyler Ferguson also tweeted, throughout the event. And he threw down a challenge for co-star, Sofia Vergara. "Getting ready 4 the Golden Globes! Guess what I'm wearing? All I'll say is @SofiaVergara better get ready for a "Who Wore It Better?" piece."
Speaking of looking good, Sofia Vergara tweeted, "Que No!! Ellen DeGeneres is not doing my makeup for the Golden globes!!! Jahaja!"
Hugh Hefner was not in attendance, but he did watch the festivities. He tweeted, "I'm hanging out with the girls Sunday afternoon. We're watching the Golden Globes tonight."
Zoe Saldana also tweeted her intentions to watch the awards. "Can't wait to watch #GoldenGlobes tonight. Congrats to all the nominees. -ZS"
Lea Salonga was witnessing the festivities from abroad. She asked , "Might anyone know what time the Golden Globes air in Manila tonight?"
Giuliana Rancic wanted to know what we thought of the celebrity fashion statements. She asked, "Deciding who to chose as Best Dressed from GG red carpet. Who's ur pick for best and worst for @e_FashionPolice?"
Pia Toscano had her thoughts on who was Best Dressed. "Heidi Klum is now my best dressed on the carpet! Wow! So stunning #GoldenGlobes"
Kristin Cavallari had other opinions on that subject. "Reese Witherspoon looks the best she's ever looked"
Ryan Seacrest tweeted throughout the night, and took time to thank the stars. He tweeted, "thx to all the stars for dropping by to chat and thx to u guys for watching and tweeting!! #eredcarpet"
Piers Morgan was proud of his Golden Globe coverage. "I'd like to thank.....myself RT @Nayef_R And the best commentator award goes to @piersmorgan #GoldenGlobes"
I must concur with Katie Couric's comment about Claire Danes. "Go Clare. No more Latesse commercials or whatever that eyelash stuff is!"
Channing Tatum was excited to be "Backstage at the @goldenglobes with @jessicaalba!!!"
Zooey Deschanel posted a fun pic of her nails and tweeted, "I am wearing a gown but my nails are wearing tuxedos!!! #goldenglobes"
Speaking of Zooey, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was disappointed that she didn't walk away with the award. "Zo shoulda had it, but speaking of Laura Dern, y'all oughta watch @davidlynch's Wild At Heart. @zooeydeschanel #goldenglobes"
Juliette Lewis tweeted throughout the event, and gave a shout-out to one notable no-show. "God I love Woody Allen he's so much "about the work" he doesn't even show up to these things! #rebel #GoldenGlobes"
Mindy Kaling had her wish list for the evening. "Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender, DO NOT do a movie together ALL WOMEN WOULD HATE THAT. Oh please Kelsey Grammar, fall off the stage #goldenglobes. Dear Brian Cranston, please be getting hammered with Poehler and @ZooeyDeschanel in the lobby."
Katy Perry (referring to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) tweeted, "Camera bombing is the new acceptance speech @ the Golden Globes."

Melissa Joan Hart was glad to see comedy get some recognition. She tweeted, "I'd like to thank the Golden Globes for recognizing comedy as an art form of its own!!! When will the Academy step up?"
