Celebrities Who Got Their Pet from the Shelter!

Miley Cyrus and pup, Roadie. Cyrus has adopted several pets from shelters.

If anyone has the money to drop on purebred cats or pups, it's a celebrity. And yet, some celebrities trade the prestige that comes from owning a big-dollar furry friend for the satisfaction of saving a life by adopting a shelter pet. Who are some stars who share their homes with pets from a shelter?

    Miley Cyrus

The former "Hannah Montana" star surprised "The Hunger Games" beau Liam Hemsworth for his 22nd birthday in January with a puppy named Ziggy … from a shelter. Cyrus tweeted to her fans, "If you live in LA & looking to rescue an adorable pup like Ziggy let me know! I have an amazing rescue! So many pups in need of a mommy!"

Miley has long been an animal lover, and earlier this year she demonstrated her support for four-legged creatures by lending her name to the "Twitter for the Critters Celebrity Challenge" to help the Onyx & Breezy Foundation for animals.

    Nikki Reed

This "Twilight" star wants more animals to see the sunrise. That's why she and singer husband Paul McDonald recently adopted a German Shepherd from a shelter to join current German Shepherd, Enzo.

Reed blogs that she wanted to be a veterinarian when she was a child. "To this day I volunteer at shelters walking dogs," she writes, and the star fosters pets as well. In fact, a pooch she fosters now makes his home with …

    Drew Barrymore

Reed was fostering a litter of puppies dumped at an LA shelter. Who should adopt one of the little boy pups but actress Drew Barrymore!

"That is just who Drew is - she has always been an amazing advocate for shelter dogs and I am just so proud that she chose to adopt a puppy from my store!" the shelter owner enthused.

Barrymore's latest film, "Big Miracle," confirms her love of animals. It's the tale of three whales stranded off the Alaskan coast, and then - like puppy Biscuit -- rescued.

    Olivia Wilde

Pup Paco is more than a pet to model and actress Olivia Wilde. She's described the 9-year-old dog, from Much Love Animal Rescue, as her "boyfriend" and "the man in my life."

Wilde now has actor Jason Sudeikis to fill the boyfriend role. Still, she remains inseparable from Paco, who had been found in the back of a U-Haul truck with five siblings, having eaten nothing for a week.

Paco lives a considerably happier life today. He was even an Old Navy "spokesdog" for a time!

    Jennifer Aniston

The former "Friends" star has a new friend: shelter pit bull/Boxer mix puppy Sophie, adopted from Best Friends Animal Society rescue. Aniston shared her difficulty over choosing a puppy with "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, bemoaning the fact that many of the pups not chosen faced an uncertain future. "I was almost walking out with three puppies," she said. "I was crying, it was so hard."
