LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to direct "New Moon," the just-greenlit sequel of the vampire box office hit, a source close to the negotiations told Access Hollywood.

The vampire drama bit into a $70.5 million opening last weekend, the biggest ever debut for a female director.

In an interview with USA Today on Wednesday, however, she was evasive about her return to the series.

"I've got this to say about Taylor," she said when asked about her future plans for Taylor Launter, who will likely see more screen time as Jacob the werewolf in "New Moon." "He told me the other day that he had gained 14 pounds since I last saw him. He's only 16. I think he's chanting to make himself grow."

Summit Entertainment seems to be moving forward quickly with their follow-up to the teen hit. The studio signed off on the next movie in the "Twilight" saga over the weekend and as previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the "New Moon" script is already completed. As for the fan-beloved cast -- according to the Chicago Sun-Times, stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will earn $12 million each for the sequel, up from the $2 million they earned for "Twilight."

  • I love the whole Twilight saga! I have great ideas for the music of New Moon. Like when Edward leaves Bella a great song would be Fly Leafs "All Around Me"when shes hearing his voice. Everytime I hear that song it reminds me of them! Then when Jacob comforts hear a great song for that would be Maroon 5 "She will be loved". I'm not really into that band b

I think the film was ntersting, but poorly directed. The actors were not in depth, it was all surface acting. Yiou learn in your acting classes how to NOT do what they did. The bad vampire was the best. The most real. Kristin Stewart is interesting looking but she was really flat in this role. It really didn't bring the intense yearning they felt.

I do appreciate Catherine Hardwicke's directing in other movies, such as Lords of Dogtown or Thirteen, but for Twilight, I just dont think she was such a great match, but I glad she brought some elements of the book to life in the movie... I would hope that she does a MUCH better job directing New Moon, but otherwise, I would probably consider another who brings fiction books to life.

  • i think that the movie would've been so much better if another director had directed it. catherine is a great director. but she should stick to what she does well, which is indie films. i loved the movie. but it could've been so much better. they could've translated the book onto the screen in a much better way. some parts just felt too draggy and yet other scenes felt like
